Tier List

Well on the account that 02/03 will be coming on Live in just a little while i was just wondering what the(to your best knowledge anyways) the difinitve tier list of both these games are. Ive never had local competition so i have no idea which characters r where so just tell me which rank the characters fall into(u know like high to mid to low)and stuff.

I dont play 2003 much, but I know Duo lon in that game is broken, so yeah, he is really good, the rest I have not a single clue.

In 2002, there are some noticable characters that are good(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
-iori
-billy
-athena
-choi
-clark

I will repeat what another thread said: Just because they are in the high tier area doesnt give you the win, they just have a higher chance over other characters.

woops sorry about that...guess i should look at the section i post in next time. Anyhow i know that tier list in some cases dont matter but ive heard SNK tittles tend to be very tier based. I would hate just having to use the same characters as everyone else just o pick up a win.

Hehehe, I can understand why you mention these, but Iori and Clark? (Adonis).

If I really had to set up an EXACT tier listing, I would be at a loss, because 2002 has a lot of 'mid tier'(or low) characters that really make up a large middle ground.

Here is the listing as far as I can figure, in the best order I can possibly arrange(first = best, last = worst):

Top(godly) Tier

1- Athena
2- Choi Bounge
3- Billy Kane

High Tier
4- Leona (Orochi) Heidern
5- Vannessa
6- Kim Kaphwan
7- Iori Yagami
8- Yuri Sakazaki
9- Regular Chris

Mid Tier

10- Clark (I doubt his official surname is 'Steel')
11- Kensou, Sie
12- Mai Shiranui
13- Private Whip(Muchiko/Seirah)
14- Chris of the Flames of Destiny(orochi)
15- Chang Koehan

....

Basically most of the rest of the cast is tied roughly for 16th place:

Terry Bogard, Blue Mary, Maxima(revenger!), Basic K', etc.

Low Tier:

-K9999

Absolute bottom tier:

-Mature
-Seth

Once again, this does not mean that if you are playing Seth vs. Athena, you can't win, simply that you are basically, at a disadvantage, I've won using K9999 against good Athena players, and I've had some good Seth players hurt my Billy Kane game...

*Leona is basically DANGLING like, right at the edge of god tier...

*I placed Kim above Iori because of Kim's massive comboability and his insane high-low games, arguably the best in the game, this gives him a much better close range game than Iori, not to mention Kim's cross up is superior.

I used to see Kim as a mini Iori, but well... I suppose I was horribly mistaken.

*The reason why Yuri is basically at nearly the same level as Iori, is because of Yuri's high priority normals, added to her high damage poke combo off of simple crouch B's, this is not to mention her special moves which possess variety and utility in most situations.

I don't usually play with high tier characters, i play with lower tier characters because i like a challenge, i'll rather keep losing and get better each time than winning all the time!!!

While im in the asking mood what exactly makes Athena and Billy and choi top tier and what makes seth,k9999 and mature so weak. Also as a follow up question how would it be possible that crap tier characters could best the likes of the characters i mentioned above...are there particular tactis that those characters(top toer) fall for that makes the fights easier or something.

Billy Kane = Range, counters(air and ground), overall solid priority, insane command move(forward A), basically a defensive nightmare, not exactly turtling, just defensive.

Choi = Absolutely monstrous mobility, arguably best cross up capability in the game, high priority all around, basically, an offensive dynamo.

Athena = Fireball zoning tactics, good for cornering people, very high priority normals(far C, crouch C, jump D, air 'bounce'(technically command move..) etc), basically, in the words of everyone but me, "an effective fireball whore".

For specific tactics(against them or 'as' them) on these characters, you'd do well to visit the KoF 2002 forum...

Duo Lon is God Tier in 2k3..the rest..

Malin, Ash, Goro.Iori, Benimaru.

Goro isn't as bad as Duolon, but he's clearly a cut above the rest of the cast too. In any no-Duolon tourneys, I'd expect Goro to dominate badly.

You all forgot to add O. Shermie to the cast of bottom tier in 2k2/NW....believe me she still is..as good as she was in 98..sad indeed.
