Being of partial Taiwanese descent myself, more than half of the nation's population are pro China than not. Of course, nobody really wants to have their penises stomped, but the best and brightest all understand that a close relationship with China is more pro than con.Perfect Stranger wrote:As someone who's been in the army, hated every fucking minute of it, and doesn't associate himself much with the country of his birth (or any other), I have to disagree.Sheba wrote:A majority of people are closet imperialists because they want to masturbate over pretty uniforms and nobility titles. Anyone claiming otherwise is a fucking hypocrite.
Moving back on topic:
To be honest, as a person of Chinese ethnicity, I really hate the Chinese government. Corruption is rife, party philosophy of "WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF TAIWAN HAS BEEN DE FACTO INDEPENDENT FOR YEARS, WE'RE GOING TO CLAIM IT'S OURS AND ABUSE OUR RISING ECONOMIC POSITION TO STRANGLE ANY FORMAL DIPLOMATIC TIES TAIWAN HAS WITH OTHER NATIONS", and "HEY, THERE'S A BUNCH OF MONKS WITH NO REAL ARMY? LET'S GO STOMP ALL OVER THEIR DICKS AND TAKE THEM OVER!" really ticks me off, and the fact that they brazenly throw critics in prison or worse is surely a sign that instead of a government ready to step into a civilized age , it's just a collection of power hungry megalomaniacs willing to come down crushingly hard on any perceived opposition to their total dominance.
And as much as China likes to posture, they prefer Taiwan to have a close relationship that benefits both parties economically, than dropping a electromagnetic bomb on the Island as that would probably hurt themselves.
