I've watched a few Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya episodes. The non-chronological order of the episodes is puzzling, but it prevents the anime from falling into the usual flow of an anime series broadcast (introduction of a problem -> climax -> resolution -> filler -> repeat).

The episodes seem to be a parody of almost every typical mystery, drama, and sci-fi genre in anime. At the same time, I think at the very heart of MoHS, it's essentially a classic 'boy-meets-girl' love story between Haruhi and Kyon.

I admit this is a bit much considering the few episodes that have been already out, but I think it's also a fair assessment to make since a lot of the first few episodes keep mentioning that Kyon is a 'trigger' to Haruhi's powers, even though she is unaware of them. While Kyon continues to be adamnant that he doesn't think of Haruhi that way, I believe this will change later on in the series.

Other more clues is that Kyon is the only ordinary human in the SOS Dan (which ironically also makes him extraodinary in a way). Should if Kyon and Haruhi were to fall in love or have strong feelings for each other, then this would fit one of the common themes in romantic animes where a superhuman being falls in love with a normal human.

All I could be just overanalysing the series and talking crap from my mouth.

I like MoHS so far. Haruhi has a very likable personality even though she's selfish and bossy. Other characters too early to tell. Need to watch more.

I honesty doubt Kyon will feel something for Haruhi. In ALL the chapters so far, he has always shown a "the fuck is up with her?".

I don't know about the manga chapters, but there are little nuances of the growing relationship between Kyon and Haruhi in the latest subbed episode (episode 8).

Take for instance their discussion of the murder case in the cave. The 2nd episode of MoHS showed that she normally didn't give a second thought about changing her clothes in the classroom in front of the guys since she "viewed guys on the same level as potatoes" in Kyon's words.

In the cave as they were drying their clothes, it looked like she was about to take off her bra but there's a moment of hesistation before she decided to leave it on. Perhaps she was self-conscious of Kyon's presence in the cave? If this is the case, then Kyon has transcended her usual definition of Kyon being a normal guy to an actual close friend.

The conversation between Koizumi and Kyon on the boat at the end where Kyon said he knew that Haruhi wouldn't actually wished for a real murder to occur is an indication of how much faith he has in Haruhi, or rather how much he knows about her character.

It's too early to tell, but I've a hunch that Kyon and Haruhi will eventually be a couple.

P.S. I liked the Phoenix Wright and Detective Conan references at the end of episode 8. LOL

You are not overanalyzing. The episode 0 kinda left a lot of clues.

I.E: In the scene taking place in Koizumi's room, Koizumi's tongue kinda slipped as he was about to talk about Kyon before to realize the scene was about himself. This obscure chat with Yuki about a key being a mean to open the door to many possibilities is refering to Haruhi and Kyon

EDIT :: Also not to mention the numerous references about how Kyon was "chosen" by Haruhi. In the typical "boy meets girl" scenario, I'd normally deduce that Haruhi "chose" Kyon because he was the first one to actually show interest about her actions, or why she did what she did. But chances are something happened in the past that made Haruhi subconsciously chose Kyon (especially with Haruhi saying that she seemed to have met him before when they first talked together).

Looking back at the first episode, I wonder if Mikuru have any special powers of her own since the "Mikuru Beam" special effect didn't look like uh, a special effect but a real beam special. Maybe Yuki attacked Mikuru because Mikuru had accidentally shot Kyon who was shooting the scene, hence Yuki immediately thought Mikuru was a threat to Kyon's safety?
