After loitering for a few minutes at Gamestop the other day, I ran across some interesting news.
Battlefield 3 is going to be released the same day, meaning more than likely that there will be a midnight release. I had already scheduled a dental cleaning on the 25th for a reason to be off of work. Now I get to start early on XIII by at least 12:15.
Oh, and my stance on new information is this:
GIVE IT TO ME. Or an early copy of the game. Whatever's convenient.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
KOF has some of the best fighting game music ever. That 4 disc soundtrack is like an early Christmas gift.
Trial mode is really something exciting, so if online isn't so good you have trials and can just invite people over. I usually hate trial modes cuz I like finding my own combos, but it's good to get new players into the game.
I just hope their is a KOF scene in America, mainly NY. I haven't even heard any major gamers talking about the series. Gotta spread the word, I asked Min from Team Spooky about it last night and he said he will try KOF out. Gotta learn to play more than just SF for 100 years. If their is no scene imma have to move to the UK with you guys

I have to say, SNKP has a lousy advertisement department.
I had no idea of the home release of KOF XIII, actually the first notice of it was this group mail from Gunsmith.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
they need capcom's hyping power, for sure. they need to start coming out with the kind of information that people actually want, and people most importantly want to know what's behind door #1 and 2, which are those green slime monsters, and snk needs to keep teasing them so the fans actually feel like talking about them. capcom's one credit is that they KNOW how to make an audience talk about their game and the characters they plan on revealing, for better or worse. knowing about the color edit mode--"customization" rather--is dandy, but that still barely qualifies as big news
the biggest questions on peoples' minds are "who are those characters?" "are they ever gonna reveal them?" "ARE there even new characters?" "how many are we to expect?" "are they just sprite edits?
" and when snkp loses momentum on this, people start to just not pay attention because they get the impression that snkp has nothing bigger to talk about than color edit mode and backgrounds
basically, they're not making use of the "hype machine" that capcom or even arcsys are using, even nrs is using it to some degree. it makes snkp look like they're ashamed of whatever they have because they have such small lead-up news, and for all we know, maybe that's what the "characters" are, and you don't need to be an expert on metalinguistics to feel that way--people just don't pay attention to someone who has very humble news to offer
gunsmith, whatever communication you have with snk, they need to know stuff like this!

Speaking of such a scene.. I actually have met a few KOF fans @ my local community college.
I wonder if we might be able to build a well knit group to help garner some attention. =D
I'm game for helping ON and the SNKP / Atlus community

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
I was actually looking at the teaser vids for TxS just yesterday but I just get this feeling that it's going to be tricky to do, only because the video editor then needs to sign a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) so that he can be sued if he leaks info. There are other factors but anyway, I've sent off the emails today because it's still a good idea.hadoolket wrote: snip

Also, advertising is not so easy. Let's imagine you're the editor of a big mag. Would you give front page to a niche fighter or battlefield 3? Would you even give more than a column? Capcom has loads of money and manpower... SNKP are not as big as they used to be, remember?
Seriously, the best thing at the moment (and has always been) is word of mouth. If you like the game, tell your friends. Don't lie about it (unless they are easily fooled or manipulated).
What worries me is that the player base that I know are really dropping out of competitive play because of jobs, kids etc. However, they will still BUY the game. If enough people buy the game, we will see XIV. If lots of people buy the game and like it, we will have a new community and competitive scene.
The interviewer in the video is Rickyo95, who has started a new KOF site in English and French, the link will be going up soon. You can tell a community is growing when you see more websites spring up. I suppose now it's about the fan pages on myspace and facebook.

Jesus, but even if you do see a 14, it's going to be a painful lifetime wait for the trilogy to finish. At which point, Kyo, Terry, Iori, Ryo, and company will still be in their mid twenties while you wither away in your 50's.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
People are clamoring for it in the area here. Last I went to G-Stop, not only did the workers gush over it, so did a few of the people that were listening in. So there IS some buzz. And the little I read SRK, there are a few that are tired of AE, dont like BB, meh @ MvC3, and are awaiting a crack at XIII. Don't know exactly how they will take to it, but the comments in the news articles on the game seem very positive. I know it's not indicative of the entire population that's there, but it is a step.
Me? There's no hope of me ever being competitive, but I'll make an effort to not be totally scrubby.

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
I finally have a reason to not like Emil. He recently said the level was so low at KOF in the States. there was no point in running XIII at Evo.
Ridiculous. The level is nowhere as important as a community in the first place. The level will come after the community grows. Or not, don't make any difference to me, just means players have an easier time getting a higher place! Japan can smirk all they want about wiping the floor with US/EU players, that's only going to happen once a year. The most important thing is having people to play with in the first place, and comments like that can kill the scene before it's even started!
Good to hear about the buzz, Shiny.
We've got a good buzz going on around London too, after the showing of it at SVB, just need to keep it up and hope the netcode is as good as KOF 95.
Sooooo one month to go weeeeeeeeeeee

Re: The King of Fighters XIII/KOF-i News Thread
Where'd you get that quote? What really sucks is Emil is probably one of the highest level players in the Western community and spends entire days playing KOF and glossing over Japanese/Chinese match videos, but doesn't take the effort to go to Evo or any major tournies to give lower level players someone to aim for. He just spends his time criticizing us for playing like noobs and not does not participate in the community like other players that are of a lower "skill calibre" than him are doing. I've always said this: no matter how good you are at competitive games, you can still be one of the worst fucking scrubs in the world if your sportsmanship and attitude doesn't match up to that level. Especially when you're there sitting on top of your throne looking down upon the masses of scrubs and doing hardly anything productive to improve their game other than going on online GGPO matches and whining about their play and lag. His "rivalry" with Dark Geese is pretty interesting too. Kind of a Yin and Yang thing going there.Gunsmith wrote:I finally have a reason to not like Emil. Oh well, every community has one or two of those, just gotta deal with 'em and move on. We got a month left - still got my fingers crossed about that netcode.

I am not following people's fame and status but who is this Emil?
Is it really so much stronger than Kane317, MR KoF or The Answer?

Went to the front page to avoid being inadvertently called daft again (which I am).
Saw footage of flame chuckin' Iori.
Saw Yagami Team '95 stage for a few seconds.
Thank you Based Gun.

Today's blog post is about Mission Mode, consisting of Time Attack Mode, Survival Mode and Trial Mode.
Some snippets:
- Time Attack Mode is sort of like KOFXII's arcade mode - it times how long it takes for you to defeat ten opponents.
- Survival Mode is the way it was in earlier KOF installments - defeat as many opponents as you can, with life refills between each opponent.
- Trial Mode is essentially combo trials, ranging from simple to 'maniac' combos, with ten trials per character. Also, apparently the stage you do these on is always the Kyokugen Dojo, and the combo dummy is always Takuma, lol.
- The unlockable/DLC characters will also have trials.
- In trial mode the game will actually let you insert additional moves between the displayed steps and it'll count as a success, so feel free to improvise if you want (BlazBlue did this too but because of the way hitstun works in that game, improvising could actually screw you over)
The screenshots also reveal a little tidbit about EX Iori's movelist, which I'll post in his thread.
