It's obviously not a side line hobby, but I fail to see how putting money, resources and time into maintaining a collection of that size automatically equates to him:

1. Not interacting with other humans

2. Not having a girlfriend

3. Being a lonely, sad person who needs to pay for sex.

You are jumping to conclusions and being far too judgemental towards someone you don't know *anything* about other than he likes Star Wars action figures a whole lot. It's not even like you just made that one off-hand remark about using a penis pump to keep the figures clean of dust, you constantly attacked him for seemingly no reason at all.

Even if he isn't lonely, I'm willing to put down a large sum of cash to bet on his wife being unattractive in any conventional sense. Most people who have these kind of collections probably fall into a pretty derogatory category of people. Some of them are normal functioning members of society, while most of them are not. Sure, you could say that all this is anecdotal but Jesus, when there's no quantitative information anecdotal will have to do and I'm telling you it's not looking good.

Of course we could just be better people and not rag on the guy, but what kind of jerks would we be if we let this kind of opportunity to be assholes slide away?

First the penis pump rig as a dusting unit was a great idea, if I wanted to take the time to make one i'd use it to keep my game collection dust free. I know i don't know anything about the guy, but I have dealt with people who have a large amount of resources and time and little people skills because they took a side line hobby to the same scale as this guy did with SW figures. I'm not ragging on him because its SW I'm just saying that from experiences i have with collectors there is always a large amount of social skills that they let pass to have the ability to enjoy their collecting. As for the sex thing, if I had money to throw around like that I'd have a huge collection of video games and 2 dollar bitches in my house dancing to the Sailor moon theme song in chinese.

I'd have worse social skills than i do now, but at least I'd be happy with my ability to collect and preserve.

So this just surfaced up on Digg...

http://gizmodo.com/357908/the-biggest-s ... the-galaxy

Choice quotes:

"JD: I think the only question left is how the heck do you support this amazingly dedicated hobby—what's your job?
RF: I work in the Art Department at a visual effects / animation studio called Reel FX Creative Studios although my department is now being called "Radium Dallas") doing Motion Graphics work. We do a lot of commercials, but the most recent thing that I worked on that had anything to do with movies, was the opening credits for Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I animated about half of it.

JD: And what does your other half thing about this?
RB: She's great about it. When my girlfriend and I started shopping for a home, the only thing I asked for was an extra room to put the toys in. She fell in love with this place we live in now, which only has one bedroom and one large main room. I told her the toys were going in the bedroom, and she said that was just fine. So that's our shared bedroom and has been for the last 5 years. She's a champ!

Indeed she is. In fact, I can guarantee Rob—whose favorite Star Wars movie is Empire Strikes Back and recently bought a Blu-ray player, just in time—that if she is going through all this, they will go through everything together. Or at least, that's what I tell myself every time I look at all that LEGO."
Kulanator wrote:I know i don't know anything about the guy, but ... *snip* ...from experiences i have with collectors there is always a large amount of social skills that they let pass to have the ability to enjoy their collecting.
So, does this change your experiences any or will you continue to make the same judgement should the same situation occur in the future?
Kulanator wrote:As for the sex thing, if I had money to throw around like that I'd have a huge collection of video games and 2 dollar bitches in my house dancing to the Sailor moon theme song in chinese.
And how does the fact that you'd collect video games and whores had you the money make you any different from the sad individual you painted this Star Wars guy out to be?

------

I know the INTERNET IS SERIOUS BUSINESS and all, and hell, I've let loose my share of vitriol on it for barely justified reasons, I'm just annoyed whenever people see a need to put down others for no fucking reason and do it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

[/quote]No it doesn't :3 And yes this helps to better further the information so the next judgement will more in formed than this one. I can only call it as I see from I know from previous interpetations. I respect his hobby, really I do, I also have seen the people who are functionally disabled in life by their collecting. I have seen them alot more than someone who is on the good side of collecting so yeah I was gonna say what I felt was the case based on previous information. If i really wanted to put him down I could have just said "He needs to burn that shit and get shot in the ass while watch tiny children pulls the arms off his misprint storm troopers." or something like that i dunno.

"RF: I work in the Art Department at a visual effects / animation studio called Reel FX Creative Studios..."

Fuk that, of course he can afford those sh!ts, prolly cost him over 20 grands the least. :o :o :o

EDIT: scratch that, just read the article. he got a 70's vintage. thats would like.... dunno how much now. :3

EDIT2: RB: She's great about it. When my girlfriend and I started shopping for a home, the only thing I asked for was an extra room to put the toys in. I hope he'd glued all his strom trooper's feets coz their nightly humpin would trigger the domino avalance effect.

I was going to say something stupid but I realise this is the POT forum. sigh.

So, basically, the guy seems to be adjusted enough, although we would have all guessed he was a freak. Life changes, a lot of girls I know seem to be putting up with their bf's toy collecting habits.

I think it's because of ebay going mainstream and everyone now knows that toys are worth ££$$ and if looked after will increase in value.

With a gf and all that other stuff, we still hope he's butt ugly though lol
