It's pretty hard to test netcode when there are only a few people in the world with the game.

At the end of the day here say about Netcode means nothing til normal folk can test it out. Things like this make me wish they'd give us online betas just so we can see how it is.
I honestly don't care what they tell us because until it's in our hands we will never know.

Considering SRK's expansion, I have to say this really isn't true anymore (or at least for the moment). Evo needs to expand. It's happy to rake in cash from other games. In fact, one of the head guys at SRK has had a copy of XIII for a week already. I've heard he's loving it! Now we just have to see if he actually posts something about it...

Er that would be me? I got a copy. I was checking game stores and then suddenly this one store got a copy today. So I had to buy it.
The game comes with DLC Iori, but the code isn't working. Hopefully the redeem code isn't uploaded to the Sony servers yet.

Played arcade mode. You unlock Billy and Saiki by playing arcade mode, and they'll challenge you between matches (Ash is one as well). They're considered midbosses, so their lifebars are very long. In arcade mode the difficulty does ramp up a bit the further you advance.

I also checked out the tutorial mode, which does explain all the basics, and had a line where Rose spelt Orochinagi as Orochinati (or something), but for starters, it's pretty enough. However I don't think they talked too much about HD activation, which is part of the game and should be explained more in depth. As I said, if someone who never touched the game before took the tutorial, it'd be useful regardless.

I also touched on story mode where it does offer some paths to choose from, and there's a bit of animation in some places, but they're mostly still pictures and lines of text. It's pretty much like Blublaz's story mode, I suppose. Except I don't know whether there's any alternate endings, yet. At least if you lose, you will get treated to some new text instead of the game just telling you it's game over. There's also pre-bout chatter, but instead of having one each round, the teams would talk to each other before the whole match using the dialog boxes. I had a pretty hilarious one where the Psycho Soldier team asked why Kyo hasn't graduated yet.

Playing the game further allows you to unlock stuff inside the gallery. That's pretty much all to it, but there's an "Invitation" tab inside gallery which contains of a giant Mai and chibi versions of other characters. I'm not sure what this invitation is.

Oh, the most important part...online play! I had a few matches where it reminds me of underwater KOF in XII. Thankfully, they're all 1 bar red connections, so really, avoid them at all costs if possible. Because it really, really reminded me of KOF XII, and for some magical reason, the other player plays well and I played with delayed inputs. Aside from 1 bars, I had a match with a 2 bar connection and it actually ran pretty good except for a few minor hiccups, so at least for now, 2 bars is acceptable.

At this moment, there's not many players who got this game, because I'm standing at 1 win and 1 loss and I'm the #19 player worldwide according to rankings (when I last saw). I did try to search for games but came up to no avail in ranked matches. Interestingly the best chances of playing KOF online is to play practice mode or arcade mode while allowing online challengers, where I get challenged almost instantly in the first two times I tried.

PenPen, is there some way to confirm if the 1 bars you were getting were to local Chinese players?

If it's 1 bar to local Chinese players and you're getting underwater gameplay, then my fears have been realized. However, if it's 1 bar because you're playing with some other lucky son of a bitch that got it in the US, then yeah, that's acceptable.

This also indicates that netplay between you, me, and SS will kinda suck - suck more than it does in SF4. :(

Florida itself is so huge that where he is in Florida could itself make a difference, but it's apparently about 845 miles. Or 1345 kilometres, if that helps.

Maybe there are still some tweaks to be made. Bummer that the netcode is still not ready.
Hope it doesn't take away from reviews. Plus the unlockable features is a nice touch. Can't wait till Tuesday!
