Big thanks and hello to our members who have broken out of lurking!!!

Loona, for the first part, I will look up these moments, as they sound good!

As for the second, this is all great but I think the focus is too attracting old fans back to the series.

I feel that we need to attact new fans. The greatest problem I had with the younger crowd is that they will vomit at any sight of neogeo graphics. KOF XIII can just about compete with Blazblue, graphically, and really, that's only just, so I think we need to stick to XIII graphics.

Actually that was the 2nd part :P Onwards...
Maybe it could be a good idea to have a thread in the videos section or elsewhere inviting people (well, maybe the main ON page could handle the invitation part for the sake of visibility) to post their favorite moments and preferably Youtube links with the proper moment already selected, so the footage selection process could be crowdsourced.
Maybe along with another list of videos that have already been checked and/or those that still need to be.
As for the second, this is all great but I think the focus is too attracting old fans back to the series.
No problem, although perhaps when putting it in writing I mentioned too often having scenes from the older games (the purpose was precisely the contrast with the much better looking new graphics), although maybe just having cutscenes and intros there would do the trick.
The main point, which I may have accidentally de-emphasised (1st draft and all) was to show that the company handling this has a lot of almost uninterrupted experience tempered with experimentation in what they're doing.

Maybe it did give a lot of nods to old fans, but then again, so did Capcom when relaunching SF with Street Fighter 4, and it worked out nicely for them.

It would be simler to attract new fans if a lot of aesthetic decisons in the game hadn't leaned toward older fans in the first place - Terry's older dated look comes to mind, when the Garou one was perfectly serviceable and comparatively timeless.
Maybe it's something worth taking into account when deciding which characters or stages should probably get more exposure to try and get newer fans - Terry looks dated, Ash weirds out most people, K' walks a fine line between interesting and 90s anti-hero cliche and way too many people have commented on the lastest version of Athena for her to feel like a natural choice. More recent designs like Shen Woo and the newer looks for Iori and Leona work nicely while staying true to the characters, so maybe those would work well.
But this is just the way I see it - if it were up to me, Joe's hair would have never gotten that tall, Ryo and Tarry would have been using their Wild Ambition and Garou looks for years and Kyo would have never gotten long sleeves on his jacket. Who knows how differently a 10 years younger generation sees things? I don't think SNKP bothered or could afford to run a market test on that sort of thing, for better and worse.

It's hard for KOF to please new fans. KOF will always be what it is, it shouldn't lose the oldschool flavor. I would rather the series stick to it's guns instead of doing a 180 on a gamble. Who's to say new fans will like it even if it did update looks? Honestly I don't think that is the problem. MK has had many new looks and it gets shat on with quickness.

It's really hard to hype the release of the game because so many new fans are unsure about it. You can't really change how unsure people are until it's in their own hands and they see themselves if they like it. Videos help a bit but not sure how much really. I don't really know what to do to get folks hype about the game.

At this point I really wish KOF had freaking commercials on tv and a few ads in NYC. Atlus hire me! I'll make you some ads :lol:

Most people only know about KOF through CvS2, which I think is a bad representation of the characters. I'm betting these are the same "no Mai, no buy" people who probably weren't going to buy KOFXII in the first place. Games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have been part of pop culture for more than a decade. SNK fighters in general have always been those obscure red cabinets you see in the corner of laundromats and donut shops with Bust-a-Move and Metal Slug.

Yeah, people are just incredible stubborn and when introducing a game or something, it's better to just show facts instead of talking. If they are going to whine about no mai no buy, no spectator mode and I don't know what else you aren't going to talk them out of it. Never.

To spread the game, vids like......

..... these, are just great. Even people that hate the game to their guts have fun with these; having an updated XIII version of these with good matches would be a great help.

Since this is about promotion - EVO2012 is announced, but its games aren't yet:
http://evo2k.com/2011/10/16/evo-2012-announced/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://shoryuken.com/2011/10/16/evo-2012-announced/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It wil almost surely cover UMVC3 and the latest iteration of SF4 (SSF4AE2012, if I'm keeping track of things correctly and there's no major update until then), but the rest don't seem to clear at this point.

I wonder wat it would take to get XIII in there - it will get released a few months before SFxT and Skullgirls (likely entries - not sure about TTT2), so there's more time for everyone to train for it and/or to be convinced of its worth until those other games actually get released.

Would fan support be enough? Would the EVO organizers be permeable to Atlus influence, if the latter were inclined to try and promote the cause of the game making it there?...

Either way, the earlier this is handled the better, it seems...

Edit: Just noticed in the Evo site that Atlus was a sponsor for the 2011 edition, I wonder if that could be the case for 2012 as well - then again, Atlus has their own Persona fighting game in the pipeline...

as far as atlus is concerned, the only thing it'll promote it looks like is catherine, which has had tournaments, so who knows, it'll focus more on promoting catherine as an evo main game. that, and/or persona fighter on conjunction with aksys games. on the other hand, it looks at kofxiii seemingly like a redheaded stepson sometimes.

did you know how much trouble i had talking to people at all yesterday? well, and days before that. it is always umvc3 this, expose that, fraud here, free there, curly mustache and pringles everywhere. etc dats mahvel babies. talking to people about something other than umvc3 during umvc3 hype is like shouting into the wind, basically. i'm not personally hype for it, but really, noone gave a good goddamn what i had to share, and it was pissing me so much off that i considered taking up smoking again.

what amounted to basically talking only to myself just stressed me out so much. that, and karin has been deconfirmed for sf x tekken. the "oooh, so close" moment i'm all too familiar with.

it's a good indication that i need either a hug or a cigarette

The videos are good, and I think I'll share them as is, but too long for an trailer.

Easy - about 300 confirmed entrants. That's all. Frankly we need UMVC3 to be released so ppl will play it, and get rid of it and go back to thinking about trying KOF, and then actually picking up the game and then playing it enough to think they have a chance to be famous at Evo. There is time. Just keep throwing out references to KOF here and there.

Hadoolket, go hug yourself. *xx

My Youtube-fu is weak, but aren't there ways to:
1. save youtube videos to your hard drive
2. take smaller parts of them and stich those along with others to make a different video
3. at any given point in a youtube video, have a little link for a few moments on-screen that can take you to another site or video
?

If so, it could be a matter of having compilations of the best bits, and for each of them have a link to the original longer video they're a part of, I guess.

How many entrants were there in this year's side tournament? There are references and videos here and there, but I'm having a hard time finding some cold hard numbers to set a precedent from...

1) Getting things off youtube is not problem, it's just ramming everything together into a 1minute 30 second ad. No way to get those moments in there - nobody's going to wait around for those moments to happen and you need all the time for the clip to make any sense.

2) It was under 60. To be fair it takes a hell of a lot of nerve to pack your bags and drive/fly to Las Vegas and this number was based off players who had played the arcade version or came to try the console version so it's quite a promising sign for Evo 2012, after the console version is released. I'm planning to go with the ON clan :D Just need that announcement to hit so we can start planning

I take it it's perfectly possible to just toss in those moments directly by editing out everything that precedes them to go directly to the good stuff, no need to wait for them, then edit out too everything else that follows, to make a collage of short interesting moment - which is why I used links that pointed to specific moments in this earlier post (the video with those awesome Leona moments is gone now though ;_;). I need to work on getting more of these...

I don't know when they decide on the games for good, but until then there seems to be at least one US tournament already planning for XIII, based on some quick SRK.com searching, hopefully it'll help test or confirm the game's success with that crowd: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?th ... ry.147005/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I hope the US folks at DreamCancel can fit this into their schedule, even volunteer to help out if possible...

On several occasions Mr.Wizard from SRK.com has been heard saying that he wanted to have KoF again at EvO.

I know that the Iplaywinner "crew" are going to try and push KoF XIII as much as possible, specially Haunts who's a big fan of the game.

Honestly i think that putting Hype moments from Kof XIII would be better in terms of catching ppls eye.

A few examples.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wieQMfp2 ... r_embedded" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ5Tov5n ... r_embedded" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsNvRelh ... r_embedded" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These are short to the point and Hype :P
