TE-form

Post by 0style » Sat May 07, 2005 07:54

Posting this for reference in preparation for my finals<3

て-forms are important in J-speech. So far there are 4 different uses for them that i know of. :P (i'm still a learning + teaching is a good way to cement that knowledge dwn)
  • *making requests
    *giving and asking for permission
    *saying something isn't allowed
    *making a sentence that describes 2 events
る-verbs (eg. - たべる、おきる)

食べる -> 食べて [eat -> eat please]
おきる -> おきて [waking up -> wake up please]

U-verbs that end in う、つ、る -> って

まつ -> まって [wait -> wait please]

U-verbs that end in む、 ぶ、 ぬ -> んで

よむ -> よんで [read -> read please]

there are some exceptions that i don't feel like posting :P
いく -> いって = 行って

to make a polite request change the verb into it's て form and add ください

て-form plus もいいです is like "you may ____ ...".” ~てもいいですか” is asking for permission.

本を見てもいいです。 You may see the book.
本を見てもいいですか。 May i see the book?

...i'll type up 'Describing two activities' tomorrow. (some other day)

Describing Two Activities

Post by 0style » Mon May 09, 2005 20:49

weee~ more stuff from my notes.

Te-form can combine two or more verbs in describing a sequence of events. "i did this and then i did that"

ノートを借りて,コピーします。 I'll borrow the notebook and copy it.

マクドナルド に 行って、昼ごはんを食べましょう。 Let's go to Mcdonalds and eat lunch.

今日は、午後十二時に起きて、美少女を追いかけました。 Today, i woke up at 12 in the afternoon and chased good looking girls.

ya.. i'm not too sure about the last one.. ;) *ghey laugh* shogo is another way of saying noon

just wondering if anyone can understand this post and if it could be more helpful some how.(no kanji, more examples, etc.)

there's more stuff on te-form in my notes.. i'll continue later or someone else can add on.

Some stuff to add to the first post:

Verbs that end in ~く = ~いて
書く(かく) -> 書いて (かいて)

Verbs that end in ~ぐ = ~いで
およぐ ー> およいで

Verbs that end in ~す = ~して
話す(はなす) -> 話して (話して)

Irregular verbs:
する -> して
来る(くる) -> 来て(きて)

A nice way to remember these is to simply convert the plain form verb to past form, then convert the last character from the 'a' line to the 'e' line.
