You reckon the sound fault is a driver issue? Damn thing has latest driver installed!
Your laptop must have some good specs- or did you turn down the aero settings?

Nah, I'm running it at full tilt. My laptop has a dedicated graphics card (nVidia 9600MGT). I think its system score is a 4.8 which is alright.

It had trouble finding Windows 7-approved drivers for some of the hardware but I tried the Vista drivers and they worked fine.

So now that Windows 7 has been released to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting public, how do you all really feel about it?

I played around with a laptop in Best Buy with W7 installed on it, and what it looks like to me without deeper exploration is that it is what Vista should've been. I'm guessing that is the general opinion on said OS?

yup!

But I won't get it until I get a super duper pc. And that's not going to happen until every single new anime comes out in hdtv mkv files (which refuse to play on my pc unless I convert them first). I like windows 7, but I don't NEED it.

I upgraded yesterday (from XP Pro -> 7 Pro). It was pretty painless all things considered - the only issue I ran into was that Fallout 3 didn't create a start menu entry when I reinstalled it but apparently that's a known Windows 7 bug.

MS makes a tool available called the Easy Transfer tool that will back up everything on your old disk and save it in a single archive file, which you can then just copy over to some other disk and double click after installing to restore everything as it was before. Pretty convenient, I have to say.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I went from 32-bit Windows XP to 64-bit Windows 7. You can use the Upgrade version but you'll need to do a clean install. My copy came with a handy card explaining how to upgrade from XP.

I need to get my hands on it later but apparently all I can find is an OEM version in stores so far.
