I made a typo
Learned that from the psychologists I've met all my life, and a book I'm currently reading from Daniel Goleman :v
Anyway, it makes sense. Catharsis is based on letting someone express their inner and repressed (mainly negative) emotions so they can "release" it and so they supposedly see and think more clearly.
But sadly that's not the case in most cases. Letting a person do that will only make those feelings become worse, as such volatile things tend to increase as the person thinks more about them... and there's ALWAYS a point where such feelings may become so unstable and great inside that person, it's completely impossible for them to even use their cognitive mind. And even if the person wasted all his or her energy doing whatever thing in their enraged state (in which after it passed, they may probably not remember what the hell they did), the supposed negative emotions will still be there.
That's why Catharsis isn't really a nice way to solve emotional problems, since the person never really understood what's the source or cause of such feelings (he just manifestasted something, but feelings are easy to manifestate, hard to understand and analyze).
So yeah, revenge may be a (very sadistic maybe) way of Catharsis... but it will solve shit. It will only make the people who wants to get revenge feel even more miserable.

Uhuho, and why exactly did you go around talking to these psychologists hmm?Kyosuke Kagami wrote:I made a typo

Psychology isn't exactly my field of study, but this doesn't seem to make much sense to me: the reason why I'm pissed is because someone was an asshole to me. I might not understand why he felt like he had to be a prick to me, but I do understand I do not like being mistreated. As a rational course of action, I will act to prevent such further abuse. Just because I believe in some cases that peaceful negotiation is not the answer (or has already been tried and been found to be ineffective) and instead choose harsher, more direct actions does not mean that I am losing control of myself or letting my emotions take over me.*snip*

Without going into too much detail, there have been times where I have been wronged, and times when I have acted to correct what I felt was injustice, and times where either due to inability or my abovementioned laziness at plotting out a fully bulletproof way to extract vengeance, I have simply given up. Of these times the ones I feel the most miserable about are not the times where I took action, but the ones in which I couldn't. I feel miserable because I was mistreated, because I believe an injustice had been committed, and the people who were gulity of it got away scott free.

Once again, this is all personal belief and opinion. It may very well be that the expert opinions of top psycologists around the world preach differently, but this just meshes more with my own philosophy.

I know those psychologists because they were my teachers during secondary and high school. Plus the ones who work in my college are a nice source of information to understand how human mind works.
Rest of shit... it used to happen to me when I was a teen. Not anymore.
Iono, maybe my current enviroments and social circles are easier to deal with (I don't know and I honestly don't care, I feel good). Also I wouldn't waste my energies and my brain's cortex (most primitive, but also the part with the biggest influence on our actions) to worry about what other people would say, do or etc.
Maybe I'm just lucky... or maybe...

There's so many states of catharsis, how can one or several studies even manage to account for all the variables?
Seeing that the board consists of mostly wankers, it could be said that masturbation is cathartic, but the way you phrase everything makes it sounds like masturbation wouldn't even amount to the release of sexual tension. Nor have you defined anywhere what types of stress are relieved by said catharsis, no where.
I don't even know how you got off saying something so completely insular on a word that encompasses such a range of meaning. Then again, there's no point to even breaking down your statements seeing as they never held an iota of merit to begin with. Hell, if I wasn't so interested in raising my post count, I wouldn't even bother. But I guess you need to be useful for something right?
