All I will say is that revenge has its place.

I plead the fifth to any and all questions regarding this post after this statement.

oh wow P.

Fuck reasons, if you can do it, and it's worthwhile for u to do it and you want it bad enough, then do it.

IMHO, it's a matter between effort required for the revenge, worthwhileness of the revenge and how much control you have over the outcome of the revenge. Try decide if it deserves the amount of effort you'll have to put into performing a well-planned well-executed revenge.

If it's not much effort and you can get away with it easy, go for it, by all means. Otherwise you just have to ask yourself how badly you want it.

As for the moral-side of things, it's for yourself to decide, but for me personally, it's all about exactly how much do I desire to inflict undesirable damage to the target, how much effort it will require, what may be the outcome of the actions and how will they affect me (though this part is often neglected), and alternatively, how much effort it requires for me to drop it/forgive/forget about it.

Yes, a revenge is meaningful only if reaches level of Xanatos roulette, otherwise is petty bickering.

I envy anyone who hasn't lusted for revenge. Honestly, as someone with a temper and strict sense of "right" and "wrong" (albeit personalized definitions of such) I can say I constantly want to avenge things from practically nonexistant slights to major incidents. And generally speaking I'm not talking about an eye for an eye - I'm talking your head for brushing up against me.

But said sense of right and wrong means that I won't seek revenge - even though I yearn to (over) react. It's not concern over being caught or fear of reprisal - I just can't justify it for my own personal conduct. I can't say that I'd never seek vengeance (that burning house example might be enough to push me over the edge of reason) but I endeavor to maintain a level of conduct above those base desires. Essentially it's a constant struggle - if you don't know what I'm talking about then consider yourself lucky.

((Devil's Advocate Mode)) Thing is, I have to wonder if seeking revenge in such a case would be a cathartic release. I mean as irritants grow/continue people tend to 'stew' and get closer and closer to their breaking point. Maybe minor acts of retribution would serve to bleed off such pressures and prevent someone from doing something much much worse. In that case revenge might almost serve a valid social purpose. Is refraining from minor acts of vengeance only gestating a worse evil down the line? If so, then what really is the moral thing to do??

Catharsis is a thing that doesn't work in most cases. Stadistically proved.

Letting your negative emotions flow so you supposedly "release" them is the worst resource someone can even consider. Letting anger be will only result in even more anger, bringing even more catastrophical results.

If you're going to claim something is "staTistically proven" and a "fact," you'd better be prepared to back up those claims with a good source.
