MP3 Players

Yeah, I'm n00b when it comes to this stuff. Should I invest in an mp3 player, stick with my PSP, or get one of those phones that act as an mp3 player too? If it's the former, which model shud I get? My PSP is a bit too big and expensive to haul with me everywhere for just mp3 usage. I also heard that mp3 players would become obsolete soon with the advent of mobile phones with mp3 capabilities. Here's a few points to consider:

*I only need a few GBs of storage.
*I want something small and relatively cheap.
*I don't intend to get a new phone anytime soon.
*I don't care about brand.

Thanks.

u cant get "cheapo" in ##-Gig-size MP3 player. If any, avoid it at all cost!

Tho if u after less than a gig & VERY CHEAP, try Wewa (chinese brand).

http://www.epinions.com/MP3_and_Digital ... iews--wewa

Or else, start drolls on mine:
Image

Brand: iRiver H10
Size: 4 gig, micro HDD
Battery: interchangeable (NOT build-in unlike st00000000000pido ipod) & rechargable
Batt life: continuously approx up to 8-10 hrs if Volume at half
Charge: i think 2 hrs
Misc: Power pack + USB cable, rubber cover/sleeve/jacket
Functions: MP3, WMA, Wave (i think), Jpeg, text file, FM radio, voice recording
Price: AU$350+

Pros:
- SRS WOW & more equalizers sound setting
- small & light size
- battery is replaceable... YES BABY!!!
- comes with Sennheizer earphones
- colour screen

Cons:
- software need to get hang of it
- some buttons are placed awkwardly
- u drop it u dead meat, dont place it near A/C, etc, its VERY SENSITIVE product! handle with care!
- I hate the USB connection slot as u need to place a loose rubber cover
- screen easily scratched, u need a protective label screener

For iRiver H20, u get 6 gigs instead.

If u like music in large amount, get one like this.
If u like music on the go & a quickie, then get JNC brand or... not recommended & if u desperate --> Shuffle ipod.
If u like music a quickie & cheapo, then get the chinese brand. You may try look for one the expandable, eg: able to use CF/SD/MMC card.

dont know how funtional the PSP is as an mp3 player... but maybe you should consider buying the 4GB HDD for the psp... $199 is an ok price considering the price of memory sticks... and you already spent money on the PSP.

Great, 3 different opinions. -_-

A CD player would be bigger and harder to carry around than the PSP. With the Sony Ericcsson phone, I could use my memory card from my PSP. But I bet the phone costs at least $500 AUS.

Well, if you want both quality guaranteed and proven convenience, go ahead and splurge on an iPod or iPod shuffle... though some models have no display screen...

I'm using an MWalker, it's cheap and rather affordable. Only it doesn't play random songs from different folders on its memory stick.

Don't go with mp3 players that play more than mp3s if you are a hardass on quality, they say that such products compromise the quality of sound played.

So if you don't want to buy a new phone, just go ahead and get a cheap mp3 player and see how far it goes. Gigs of space? You don't have THAT many favourite songs, right?

Still, if I were you, I'd make do with what I have and stick to your PSP, as I'm VERY stingy when it comes to buying extras like mp3 players... :/ Just get a cool bag to carry it around with you~ ;)

apple dumped the mini for the nano

And im curious also about the phone that accepts the 2 GB stick... cuz the s710a, the w800 and the k750 only take the 1 GB one.

I have an Ipod mini and love it.
However I think the mini has been discontinued because of the Ipod Nano o-o

If you only need a few GBs, I suggest getting a flash memory player. Small and convenient, and some of them don't even need any software to be installed since they double up as USB thumb drives.

^ I second that.. good for short travels. Some of them are easy to misplace though, due to size.. :\

i concur

traded in my crappy RCA lyra for Creative labs MP3 player
and it feels Soooooooooooooo good.

Flash drive, easy to transfer files, microphone, fm tuner
operates on One aaa battery, whats not to lurve?

And relatively cheap too.
