Gaming's subtle influence on RL

So the latest issue of EGM has an article on how game developers' real lives are affected by all the time they spend on their games (eg. Gears of War developer noticing cover options in the real world, Burnout developers speeding/recklessly driving their own cars).

After thinking about it, I realized that from time to time I've also applied game logistics to the real world. Examples being:

- As a big Twisted Metal fan, I've noticed that I've a tendency to evaluate the distance and trajectory necessary for a successful napalm strike on other motorists, bridges, pedestrians...

- I'm also pretty observant of real life equivalents of what would qualify as 'grindable' objects and grind lines in a (wait for it....) Jet Set Radio game (eg. grind down the traffic lane divider, leap to the fencing line, jump onto power lines.....)

So am I the only psycho who has these gaming elements pop up from time to time?? If you've experienced any yourself - let's hear about 'em

Definitelly one i got was to react quick in a case of real danger or alarm. I usually think fast and calmed and don't let myself being panicked. Tension games like MGS, GTA or any other who require you to act quickly but not reckless in a tense situation has been some influence.

Why is this thread in ZA WARUDO? :0

And it happens with me sometimes... except it's the opposite, I try to observe and compare RL stuff with videogames, specially simulators. First time I was testing Forza Motorsports' damaging system and overall physics, I was incredibly obsessed in trying to see how accurate the Newtonian physics were applied in the game and how real the damage felt.

On several occasions I have had to resist the urge to yell "OBJECTION!" when someone says something I don't agree with.

...

What?

I'm the type to pull up to the stoplight playing the Mario Circuit theme from SNES Super Mario Kart full blast in my car, and look at you like you're the weirdo.

That is based on a true story.

I don't doubt that.

Meh, I can't count the amount the times me and friends have applied KOF logic to other stuff in real life.

On girls:

Scruffy: So you're giving her the stuffed animal tonight eh?

Me: *Nods*

Scruffy: And you don't know how she's going to react?

Me: *Nods*

Scruffy: Its like going for the Kyo dream cancel combo outside of the corner. If you're just a bit too far away, the LDM will whiff, you'll fail to grab the opponent, and she'll fall through and recovery roll. You'll have wasted 2 levels and be open to a devastating counter attack. You sure you don't want to poke some more until she's in the corner, before going for the LDM combo?

Me: Nope. I'm gonna go for it.

Scruffy: Good luck.

Gotta luv this logic. Did it work the risky combo set up with the chick, AE? :D

Opponent has a top tier stamina rating, and I hit worse than Momoko. Still a work in progress.

Back in the days of Blood (ANAL JUSTICE!) and Shadow Warrior I used to evaluate RL enviroments', the school and malls and such, multiplayer deathmatch potential. Like "omg my cousin's house would make a good dm map" type thoughts.

I USED TO DO THE EXACT SAME THING. Especially in particular case, when there was very well-done graffiti at an awkward position on a building and I tried figuring out how it got there.

Im also guilty of using the KOF logic IRL...

same with anime/manga rules...

like "NO, you have to reveal your (X RL action) before doing it!"

something like that...

I don't actually USE the logic but playing certain strategy games changes my perspective on things sometimes. I'm playing Europa Universalis, a very intricate strategy game. Because of it i'm looking at wars/revolutions/progress or lack thereof within countries or regions differently right now.

i've finally realised what game it was

Sega's OUTRIGGERS

played that a lot, and my first exp of cover + fire

kept sizing up things while walking in the street, judging if they were good for cover!
