IS 2D fighting dead, or just dying?

I was checkin' out the thread with info of "Arcana Heart" when i was thinking, "Is 2D fighting dead?"
Sure we have new age 2D fighters like melty blood or guilty gear, but it really doesn't have the "OMG" type of appeal it had back in the days. At the arcade in my town, we have 3rd strike. Long ago, we had people young and old lined up at that one arcade, just playing it. Now.....I find my initials on the high score screen every damn where!!!
I know alot of people on this forum are very opinionated people (sorry if i misspelled), and you guys are some of the realist people i know. So i'm asking you guys opinions on this....is it dead, or just dying.....or still keeping strong?

A bold statement, if I do say so myself.

.......and dynamite? bold statement indeed,

. Creative post, i'll give you that.
And Anti-k, i hope not also.....
But how the way it's going, 3D fighters are just gonna run 2D to the ground quicker than Capcom is doing with the megaman franchise.

Want Arcana Heart.
But the possibilities of me getting to play it are as low as Bush's approval rating.
ZING.

Seeing as to how there are legions of people in line for trying out Arcana Heart during it's beta tests, it's doubtful that it won't be dying there soon.
Well as for 2D fighters, let's see, aside from AH and XII...well, there's nothing else nowadays the works in regards to that. However, if Battle Fantasia manages to succeed, we might see more 2D-gameplay/3D-looks hybrids in the future.
So at the very least, it's better than nothing.

Simply put, Asia still loves it pixels while most of the Western countries have forsaken it because it doesn't make them horny any more.

fighting games is more fun and dynamic to play than in 3d. but from what i know ps3 will not be realesing any 2d games anymore so there you go. a big loss to the 2d world

Do you mean 2D as in traditonal drawn characters fighting or just left and right scrolling fighters reguardless of 2d/3d elements?

As much as i love them, i think 2d fighting games have been dead for a while.
In Asia there's still a market for them, but... i don't know. I can't feel the love.

The U.S. != the entire american continent.
2D fighting games are still pretty popular in Latinamerican countries (in a minor or major way).

People play fighting games because they want to pwn other people. Therefore 2D or 3D makes no difference.
Only graphic whores or fanboys care about stuff like that.

I lost the will to pwn a long time ago... maybe if I had kofXI near me I would play again... but now I simply rejoice at the memories (mainly) Kof left me of fighting games.
Its like we are rebels after a big war... yes we would die for the dream, but that wont change the outcome of the war.
