YES!!!!!!

FUCK YOU ENGLAND AND FUCK YOU BRAZIL!!!

my faith in this WC has been restored. I want the winner of France/Portugal to win the WC. It would be fitting for Zidane to end his career lifting the WC again. Best player this generation. fuck off ronaldinho. France FTW!!!

France is finally back in top shape. Good to see them play as a team unlike the Brazillians in their match.

Go France! Winning the cup would be the perfect way to end to Zidane's football carrer, and that'd be awesome if it did happen.

And I'm glad Portugal won in their match, too.

From now on I'm definitely rooting for Portugal. But I'm pretty sure Germany will win it all.

Ronnie needs to play SS or WF instead of AMF. At Barca, he gets so much room playing as WF and he is better able to do his magic. Brazil coach is dumb. He should play Ronnie as SS to Robinho or Adriano.

He played in his usual position against France, actually. The problem was not in his position, though. And Parreira was incredibly, amazingly dumb, not only for that reason, but for several others. Mainly because he lacked energy. He never motivated the players. The Brazil team as a whole lacked urge to win, passion. It's been like that for the past four years, but we just couldn't see it. Brazil only played three good matches in the last four years (one of them ended up in one of those stupid "Joga Bonito" ads).

Brazil had a collection of excellent players. Certainly the best ones, if you compare name by name with any other team. But Brazil never had a "team"; never had unity, teamplay, leadership. The players would not incentivize each other. It was just a collection of good players who would expect things to solve themselves, believeing they could just win any match at any time without even trying. THAT was the real problem, what made not only Ronaldinho, but every single player (save for a few of the defenders, and most of the subs) play like shit.

Brazil played well against Japan, when the subs were playing instead of those goddamn veterans. But that dumb fuck called Parreira couldn't see that, and insisted on a team that had no collective aspect, and that played with absolute apathy.

Brazil deserved to lose, and that's why even though I was pretty angry during the match (and during every single match except for the one against Japan), I didn't really get sad in the end. I wasn't even rooting for them anymore, cause they didn't deserve it.

That was what bothered me about Brazil during the whole tournament. Where was the teamplay? The motivation? Did they expected the cup to be handled to them on a silver plate?
I also remember this absent motivation in the first match of France, against Switzerland. I thought "Ok, Zidane. You got out of retirement to "help" the team. But your presence alone won't get them to play better, pour some of your energy into it". The tie against South Korea made me doubt them even more. Then I saw them gradually, yet painfully getting better. When Ribery tied against Spain, then Vieira and Zidane, I felt... they may be able to do it, they are on the way.

On the other hand, while I was saddened to see Japan getting raped by Brazil, I felt that Brazil played better as a team, but I didn't get to see that again, when they played against Ghana.

I am raving, I should stop here, I think you got my point.

Whoever win between France or Portugal, I hope it'll be the price of a team effort. I'll root for France anyway, they need their supporters more than ever.

I've been supporting les bleus for about 7 years, and this is the first time since Euro 2000 that they've really played to their potential. I'm loving it.

Also happy that I'm wrong about my previous theory that Zidane couldnt link with Henry because he was too elaborate with his passing... Ronaldinho who? Zidane is by far the greatest player of this generation.

So Germany/France final is pretty much a lock then? What does everyone think?

Italy, despite the 3-0 win over Ukraine, still don't seem quite right for some reason. Maybe I'm just biased and don't like them. Germany look to be playing better with every game, and the belief in the team seems to be increasing too. Portugal has possibly the best manager around at the moment, and will have many key players returning to play France. France... well they beat an inconsistent Spain, and an unimpressive Brazil. I'm a bit reluctant to support them, but if they do make the final I hope they win it. I think they will lift for Zidane. Barthez and Henry also have much to prove.

Lalala! football's shit and germans always win!

I will seriously kill someone if Germany wins this world cup. The fact that either they or Brazil are always in the final just makes me want to vomit. Even when they suck like they did four years ago they still somehow get to the final. If I didn't know better I'd swear it was fixed.

But no, it's not. It's just that the Germans have figured out how to win in tournament football. And that way is:
1. Don't concede. This doesn't mean don't try to score goals, but certainly don't go crazy in attack. Just do what you need to there. I thought this German team was different and more offensive, but the Argentina game showed their true colours again.
2. If you do go behind, get a late equaliser. Which they ALWAYS do. If they can score so regularly, makes you wonder why they wait until they go behind before getting that goal.
3. Most importantly, don't lose penalties. Pretty simple logic - if you don't lose on pens, you can't lose!

Not exactly inspiring, is it? Which is why I'll have to slit my wrists or give up on football if they win it all.

France though, they rocked! Reminded me of the awsome 2000 team (better than 98 team). And Zidane.. I almost cried whilst watching him play. There are great players and there are GREAT players. GREAT players can be counted one the digits of one hand. My opinion is that Zidane not only can be considered one of the best players of all time, but it's time to discuss whether he's THE best player of all time. Contentious, yes, but think about it - he completely dominated wherever he went and won absolutely EVERYTHING. Not only that, but he was just about always the most important player for all those teams. Isn't that greatness personified?

As for England, meh. Played better against Portugal, pretty well actually (predicdtably), got a player sent off (predictable) and then lost on penalties (even more predictable). Sven's an idiot, I blame him completely, as does almost everyone else. If Brazil had played England in this WC I think we could have taken bets on who out of Sven and Parreira would use wonderful players worst.

Finally, this Portugal team sucks balls and dive better than the Chinese olympic team. They mustn't win the WC, they really mustn't.

If I read your post right, you'd rather have France or Italy win it?

EDIT: Every times Italy faced Germany in World Cup, Italy always won. I hope this evening's match will prove it to be true again.

Finally got to see Zidane clips on youtube in the Brazil vs France match- the commentator (English btw) said there should have been classical music playing when he had the ball... and the end of the match will be remembered for the sportsmanship as the two teams and fans (apparently) celebrated together. The Brazilians had high admiration for Zidane.

F*ck FIFA, that's why FF9 is the best FinalFantasy game ever :3

Hey, if France keeps playing like that they can win the WC in perpetuity for all I care. But to keep playing like that they'd need Zidane every time, and he's retiring

Italy winning would be alright. I think they've only been ok in this WC, but they haven't been the negative, cowardly Italy of yore, so perhaps a win would finally convince them that that type of football is dead and buried.
