I think the way Japan played throughout the whole thing, they probably deserved to lose
Missed opportunities galore, and they seemed content to fool around with the ball rather than actually try to maintain (or extend) their dubiously-awarded lead. Their keeper performed really well though, at least until the last 12 minutes when their defense just fell to pieces.
For some reason even back in 2002 I was sorely underwhelmed watching them in action. Mind you, I'm no football fan, but that's the impression I get from watching them play.
Good on the Aussies

It was definitely the most exciting, although not the "best" technically (that award still goes to Argentina - Ivory Coast).Eczema wrote:match of the tournament so far im sure you'd all agree
Woah, I said Japan would win, but not by much... and I was right on the money for 84 whole minutes. Can't believe Australia scored three times in just about 6 freakin' minutes... that's why Football is so good. Poor Zico though, I was kinda rooting for Japan a little just because of him.

It's hard to accept that two of Japan's best players during the match were responsible for 2 goals.
1st goal was another GK misjudgement (high five, guys)
2nd was class
3rd was the Right Back getting owned...
But you say that Japan lost because they turtled... they didn't have much choice. Once Cahill and the striker came on, Australia completely dominated possession. Sending on Ono as defensive midfielder to counterattack made sense, guys. Aside from that, Japan got overrun physically throughout the cours e of the game. While they controlled the midfield during the 1st half, it was always hard to shake off the feeling that they would collapse. Viduka was 1 head taller than Miyamoto (the centreback) ffs.
But to concede 3 in 10 minutes... is really the stuff of nightmares. My heart aches for Japan. Unfortunately they won't have much chance against Croatia or Brazil either. One must hope they develop a clinical striker and centreback in the future.

Funny how karma works.
Japan get lucky goal>>> Australia equalise>>> Japan denied penalty in which scorer of Australia's second goal would've been sent off thus denying said goal>>> Australia getting second goal>>> Australia's third goal.
Also the japanese substitutions were bollocks to say the least.
Oh and the USA are horrible. Dare I say they got a reality..... Czech? hehehe

Congrats Eczema... its funny how both Mexico and AUS defined their matches in a similar way... But Japan just crumbled, it was sad to see.
USA vs Czech rep....
!!! THEY. GOT. SERVED... their dumbass egos came crashing down... and arggh that Bruce Arenas... he didnt say a word to them... its like when you behave badly, you get no food today, if you do good, you get a lucky star.
USA team will starve today... tomorrow is another day.

thx denieru.
i fear the czechs. hiddink has beaten italy before with korea and i think he can do it again with australia. the czechs have been the most impressive team so far in the tournament. but then again brazil plays tomorrow so we'll see. ;)
but im getting ahead of myself. theres still brazil and croatia to contend with.
