IS 2D fighting dead, or just dying?

I would say that if it is not dead yet, it has been dying for a long time. I mean, I still have fun with the few new 2D fighters that come out, but I accept the fact I'm in a very niche market. I say have fun while you can and keep playing until the ship is completely sunk. Of course this is the opinion of someone in the US where we hardly get ports anymore, and the story seems to be different in other countires.

Yeah, you're right. It hasn't completely fallen off, but it's hanging on a thin string right now. And with these new-gen consoles coming out, 2D fighters really won't be thought of that much, much like what 1718 said. Most people nowadays don't want any 2D fighters anymore, these people i'm referring to are graphics whores and young ass kids, who always assume that if the graphics arent 3D, it's not worth playing....

I mean, people doesn't buy a Wii because of graphics... and also the retro controller and the overall old games you can buy online.

Well said, Persona. Although there are some people out there that don't think the same. I'm talking about the ones who will buy a shitty game (in this case, fighting) with good graphics, like Tekken 4, for example.

Well yeah T4 is pretty bad but was going in the direction of more interactive background, while T5 is great but very classic overall.
