The quarter-finals? The US didn't make the semis so I dunno what you mean. Round of 16 you mean? Anyway I doubt a quarter-final berth is worth the US giving Mexico political favours.Vice Vecta wrote:Specially when Mexico losses to US in the quarters of final and, magically, the next day, the economical debts of Mexico to the US dissapeared in a poof of smoke and obsolescence. Coincidence? Magic? Viva Mexico y la corrupcion, hijos de puta! LMAOKyosuke Kagami wrote:Fucking referees, they ruin everything :0
I still LOL @ the finals in France 98, and all the Korea games in Japan - Korea 2002.

Then I don't understand why France got his ass kicked in the preliminars in Japan - Korea 2002 so quickly. And they were the defending championsSheba wrote:I didn't see any fuck up by the referees in the '98 WC final, unlike the Spain-S.Korea match in 2k2.

France is not a bad team... but they reputation dropped drastically after that. Nowadays they're considered the WORST World Cup champions so far.

They used the same team setting over the months, by the time the World Cup started, everyone knew how to counter them.
They had not counted on the new blood, relying on the same old.
They relied on Zidane too much, as if he was the Football's Jesus. That's a French thing to rely on one man to decide their own direction (see Napoleon, Joan d'Arc, De Gaulle...).
The French tendency to blame things on bad luck. A lot of reasons to explain why they just plain sucked, Gaseous Snake made a nice post to explain it, and it was rather accurate.
We are deeply sorry the Brazilian did not like the french food, we deeply apologize that we didn't let Ronaldo to train long enough under enough G to hit the SSJ4 level. Also Brazil didn't use all its arsenal during the France98 finals, they were too weak, and that just "no".
Every football team, heck everyone and everything, have their bad days. Otherwise Brazil would have won every damn World Cup if they were that hax.
For the last part, I don't disagree, but I don't agree either because I honestly doesn't care about the reputation of every football team who won the World Cup, excepted Italy and Germany, the former for being the King of Turtling and the later for confusing football and street brawl (lol let's punch the player and not have the referee noticing it, in the 1980s)

Les Bleus have always had a talented lot of players that never seemed to be able to play to their potential on the international stage, aside from the 98-2000 gap. Since then none of the younger players have stepped up, the old have gone and France seem to be stuck in an endless transitionary period. Failure at this WC could be because of Domenech, who never picks Pires and Giuly, probably France's best wingers.
The squad is gifted with plenty of talented individuals who are versatile and provide depth. And it's just too bad that Boumsong is now beyond redemption to be a part of it.
I agree that France lost early in 02 because of overconfidence, and low morale. They weren't playing that great prior to that WC and they were up against a young side who mostly plied their trade in the French League. They didnt seem to care less after that game, and Henry's red card in their last game was pretty much the final nail in their coffin that year. Not that he was doing well in midfield anyway... But why are they the worst champions? Champions are champions. We congratulate a team on their acheivements, rather than compare them with others, because it takes more than skill to win a tournament. That year, France played well, took a host of factors well and fully deserved to win the cup. You can say the same thing about Liverpool and Red Star Belgrade in the Champs League.
Looking to the future, I hope the likes of Mavuba and Ribery realise their potential and become worthy successors of Makelele and Zidane. France won't do well this year, but I hope they pull something off for old time's sake.
