Anime Live Performances

Post by Gunsmith » Tue Jan 15, 2008 18:43

We've seen cosplay shows at conventions but I want to know if you would be interested in a properly scripted and acted live show- imagine REALLY fit girls and cool ass kicking guys in some sort of tense situation like a bank hold up or something, but with anime characteristics, like exaggerated movements and over the top screaming etc...

I'm trying to think of a new show but it really depends on what people want to see, and anime is not for real life, but some things can be drawn from it to make real life a bit more interesting... take Street Fighter the later years for instance... that's well acted and entertaining while looking cheesy even with special effects.

I thought about approaching my old anime club but I note it's on the verge of closure due to lack of attendance (THE INTERNET)

I'm thinking of doing a Genshiken type show... but would you buy a ticket to come and see it (theoretically as I can have it staged internationally). And no, you wont be able to download screeners etc, so going to the show is the only option!!!

Any thoughts? Not interested?

Not sure if this is wholly appropriate if you're thinking about staging a show, but you might want to take a look at the Nodame Cantabile drama series for ideas on how to incorporate manga-style effects with real-life actors.

With regards to the subject matter though - wouldn't a Genshiken-type setting cut off the size of your potential audience a wee too much?

Not exactly sure what you mean by "Genshiken type." Will this be a philosophical examination of nerd culture or an over-the-top parody of it?

The show Akihabara@DEEP comes to mind. Entertaining at times, but awkward to watch during others.

When I said Genshiken type I meant like what it's like to be an otaku today IN THE WEST.

I could blend it in to a real life situation

eg. geeky guy tries to get through a day in the office waiting to get home and play kof
tries not to be geeky in front of fit girl etc etc

or should it be high school?

So Nodame went live action? I'll definetely check it out, thanks for the tip!
