KoF's Revision Fraction

Post by Lupin » Fri Dec 04, 2009 12:03

KoF's revised games to new games revision fraction is about 25%.
Durring the years that SNK made sequels and very few revised games, their competitors made countless non-sequels.
Street Fighter's revision fraction is at least 200%.

The only major revised KoF games from SNK without checking are '94, '98, and 2002.
So the list of main line KoF games is
'94,
New '94,
'95,
'96,
'97,
'98,
New '98,
'99,
2000,
2001,
2002,
New 2002,
2003,
XI,
XII.

The Revision Fraction is 3 revisions to 12 games = 25%

For Street Fighter, here is a list with non-sequels, taken mostly from fightingstreet.com.

Street Fighter III (New Generation)

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike (Fight For The Future)

Street Fighter Zero 3/Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Saikyo DOJO)

Street Fighter Zero 3 for Matching Service (Saikyo DOJO)

Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV

(Some people even say that the SFZ games count as less than 3 games. I will count SFZ as 3 games until someone teaches me why not to.)
For the 7 major SF games, SFZ, SFZ2, SFZ3, SF, SFII, SFIII, SFIV;
There are at least 14 revisions. I believe there are more that could be added that would make SF's Revision Release Ratio even higher.
SF's Revision Fraction is 14 revisions for 7 games = 200%

At Arcade Infinity, KoF XII was reportedly replaced by the KoF 2002 revision KoF 2002UM.

Apparently there's only a small minority of us with an ideal for actual sequels. Most fighting gamers willingly buy non-sequels don't they?
