am I wrong but isn't it the rule that every four years we have a dream match?

Well, more like every 4 KOFs.
We already know that XII isn't a dream match, though.

Maybe they're going for a different approach this time, like how they decided to replace the years with roman numerals.

Why would they drop the story after only 2 games? Shouldn't there be at least 3?

SNKP officially said that XII will be the conclusion of the Ash saga, I think.
I'm not sure whether the game needs further tuning from XI. It feels like XI is good as-is and whatever additions look redundant to me.
What they can do is some character balancing, like giving Gato the counter move and the HAIHAIHAIHAI kick move in MOTW. That'll balance things really well. :D

Also I heard that there are guest characters just like in XI...
(probably, SS and LB characters, but more probably ADK and Data East guys...), but I could be wrong...
OST is more like a XI-2000 hybrid since I assume that the members of the KOF 2000 sound team are reunited again.
The interesting point in this game is how they will compress the remaining plotholes in 1 game? (Takuma's true assailant, Mukai's comeback, a controlled Rose, Oswald's reason of hunting the Dragon Pills, those spooky kids hijacking Heidern's eyepatch, the Dragon's Spirit story and the Leader of "the Group")
XII will be interesting story-wise...
Gameplay wise, I am mum...

well the ps2 98 is out this year which may fill the quota for dream matches or something.... if it's every four kofs, do we count neowave? if it's every four years, then we were due one in 2006!
*is too old and senile to play new systems*

Nah, Neowave is just a game made for the Atomiswave and later ported for PS2. I don't think it has any relevance to the lineup for the regular KOF games.

I thought of it as a better or more refined version of 2k2.........More of a spinoff and test game then anything else since it was on Atomiswave.

I agree with your latter bit, but you have had me confused there =\
IMO, i think 2002 was more "complete" than neowave. To date, I think there are still many people (mainly in HK, JP and CHN) that still play 02. And no, I didnt mean those SUPER-DUPER-ULTIMATE-DODGY-INFINTE-POWER-RUBBISH versions. I loved the just defend mode and the Maxpower modes they introduced in neowave, it's pretty cool and refreshing but it didnt really feel like KOF.

If Neowave was 2002, it would have had more merit. Sadly, it wasn't.

Recently I loaded Neowave to "demonstrate" it to my friend, and to my shock, I didnt realised how "Bad" the graphics was. Perhaps it was maybe due the fact that I normally have XI on my atomiswave. Some of the BG in neowave looks pretty decent, but for an atomiswave title, I can say it's pretty disapointing.

In HK they do play 2k2 a lot, yeah. Arcades everywhere have 2k2 since KOF people refuse to touch anything else. Neowave died almost in a split second in HK.

About the plotline, did they ever reveal WHO was controlling rose? I'm not sure, but I wouldn't doubt it if she was actually a playable character in this one. Also those two punks that attacked the ship at the end looked awesome. I love the blond one!
And as far as Ash, do you think his saga with "end" in the same way as Chris - dies, and never comes back again? Because from what I gather, Ash has a huge fan base, and to kill him off would be almost as severe (not quite, but close) as if someone were to off Iori - would cause a huge ruckus among fans.
I'm also very intrigued to see what exactly Iori is going to do now, since he no longer possesses his power, or at least not all of it.

Iori would just become 2k2 Takuma, or play like Shingo
