They're hacks of KOF2001 and KOF2002, i.e. they're not official games.

Yeah, not to mention that SNK dropped the annual motif on KOF's after 2003. The latest one is "KOF XI" because Neowave was an experimental title more than anything.

And those hacks were dumb. :(

NeoWave is a friggin' waste of brainspace. What exactly did it accomplish? At least Re-bout updated the graphics. About friggin' time. Sorry KOF, but after several years of Guilty Gear and SF3, those 320 x 240 res sprites look really old. I guess that's why 2006 is CGI.

NeoWave plays totally different from 2002. I like it and it's a fun game.

Wrong, 2006 is KOF:MI2 in America.

Japan = KOF:MI2
USA = KOF 2006

So it might be assumed that MI3 might be called KOF 2008 or 2009 when it reaches the American Shores...

You misunderstood me.

I knew about the MI2=2006 thing. When I wrote 'CGI' I meant 3D polygon vector graphics, which are computer generated. The image of the fighters is generated by the computer in realtime, as distinct from 2D sprite graphics, where every frame has to be drawn by hand, just like cel animation.

I think 'traditional animation' will always have a place in video games, there's just no excuse for it being so pixelated. I mean, in the past, that was because of storage limitations, but now, the only excuse is cost. It would cost Playmore a bit of money to redraw all the characters... then again, if arc systems could do it, why not Playmore?
