In an attempt to rejuvenate the game, the Japanese had decided to make point based tournaments. What this means is that characters are each assigned a numerical value. The combined value of your entire team can not exceed 10. So far the Chinese have taken to playing XI in this format quite favourably. They have furthered fine-tuned the system too by adding 0.5 for characters who are leaders and 2p Duck to name a few examples.

I am posting the list below for reference. Compare and contrast with the ones on top.

Point system

Points to ponder over: A vast increase in number of Shen and Griffon users in Japan. For China, it is Iori and Griffon.

@_@ Nice idea, but the points aren't balanced. DL is only 2? And Yuri/Vanessa as 4?? Even if I dont pick KGO, my other teams would exceed 10.

DL (L), Malin, clark = 2.5 + 3 + 6 = 11.5

I guess I can stick with DL(L), Malin + Beni/Shen/Kensou

Hmm, i reckon they should lower the points of KGO, and limit it to just 1 of them. Why 10 points, and not 12 or 14.. Man, they do have weird ideas..

Ironically my two main teams are 10 points if you ignore the 0.5 leader stipend.

Gai, Athena, Jyazu
Maxima, Griffon, Silber

What a process like this proves though is Griffon is still too low, after 1.5yrs of disrespect.

Wow. Everytime I turn my head Ryo jumps up a tier. Looks like he belongs up there, though its funny seeing him a tier above Kyo and Duck.

And I assume not all characters get a +0.5 for being leader right? Seems to me that some characters should get +1 (Gato, Adel), some +0.5 (Terry, Griffon) and some +0 (Iori, Duck) for being leader, though that might be difficult to fine tune...

Team dynamics might mean that this system is just going to end up with a few dominent combinations... Oswald+ Duo, Maxima+ Gai or Liz.

"A vast increase in number of Shen and Griffon users in Japan. For China, it is Iori and Griffon" <--- This is kinda a red flag that the characters in question should jump up a point or two.

That is not a tier list btw. The purpose of a point based tournament is to discourage the use of "popular" characters and to attract players to choose those rarely seen ones.

The maximum value to your team is really arbitrary.

Personally I would say this: This format forces players to choose characters with 4 points and below. Choosing characters above 4 points is a big risk and I think only Maxima, Adel(L) and Ralf can justify their value.

well to me and I insist to me, the tier list , of the ps2 version is:
gato, kula, ex kyo, hayato*, probably mr. big
oswald*, eiji, duck ( kind of tricky to use though), mai, hotaru, jyazu has something that makes me hessitate where to place it.
clark, kim, shingo, iori,ash,b.jenet
everyone else
momoko.
notes:
normal kyo isn't that much high for me, the fireball is slow to recover as hell, and doesn't have anything abusable,doesn't have great pokes, he still is a good rushdowner as usual but just that. Oswald lost his juggle from it's leader move. comments?
