We didn't have enough D.P.S. to get rid of Puppet Master's puppets so we keep getting sucked into the iron maidens. Also when Puppet Master starts moving around, we can't reach him quick enough so we get sucked once again into the iron maidens. But yeah, it's getting easier now, just finished chapter 3 normal with Fuu last night.

Fuu uses Shanoa and I now use Richter (was using Julius and Simon beforehand). I like Julius more but his D.P.S. sucks compared to Richter.

And I love how the game deals with lag. I felt no lag whatsoever.

yeah the game flows well, no lag perceived. There are places where one character has to stand on a button to let the other go through some flames, and i fully expect the situation to result in hilarious failures, but everything goes pretty smoothly.

I assume you guys have done your studying and know the importance of dash and crouch cancelling for spamming with most characters, as well as the way each character becomes more powerful. I'm considering purchasing the game again for PS3, but the thought of not having Winged Boots is horrific.

I tried crouch cancelling with Richter and it doesn't seem as easy and smooth as the previous games. Also I realized spamming his R1 attack seems to be quick unless crouch cancelling for him is quicker.

I know of past Castlevania techniques but I'm lacking knowledge about info for this game. I only know that spamming subweapons levels yourself up for the whip users. Do the whip users ever get a stronger weapon?

And yeah, walking without any speed boots is slowwwwwwwwwwwww. Luckily Richter has his slide kick for movement.

The easiest method of spamming is to assign your most spammable spell/ability to down+button, then simply holding down and mashing the button and backdash. The speed that this can make attacks come out is sometimes faster than the speed that the game registers hits, so it is a good idea to pace yourself to more efficiently use MP. It is possible to spam nearly as fast with the other directions if you have the dexterity and rhythm. Generally, cancelling normal attacks is a lot trickier, but not particularly necessary.

The base strength of a character is generally determined by the level of their skills in total, so the way characters powerup differs. Most characters, Belmonts, Shanoa, Yoko, and Maria have to grind their skills/spells up through use (more on this later). Soma needs to absorb and level up souls. Alucard needs to collect multiples of his spells. Charlotte needs to level up her spells by absorbing them with her shield. Doing this not only makes the specific skills stronger, but raises the character's base strength. This doesn't affect the look of any of their weapons except Charlotte. A Belmont's whip will always be their whip, but with proper grinding they can do the highest single hit damage in the game with just their whip and martial arts. Soma and Alucard are very gear dependent for their damage, so it is less important for them.

Shanoa is a whole different thing altogether. She needs to absorb her spells from the witches (Aliosomethings) and nova skeletons, and I guess she has some newer ones she can get from chests in later chapters, but getting them multiple times doesn't empower them, grinding their use does. She has a few different normal attacks that generally are gained from boss chests. I'm partial to pnuema because it is reppukens, and properly timed use of it in both hands yields double reppukens. Also it is good DPS if backdash and crouch cancelled carefully and rhythmically.

The best way to grind skills is to get a friend and play the Survival Hard Mode. You will be locked in a room with Gergoth and the other guy for three minutes. Use the previously explained spamming method to throw some shit at Gergoth until you are out of MP. Since you respawn immediately in this mode you can just kill yourself to regain your MP and spam all over again. In most cases the Gergoth will die before the time is up, so there is some downtime, and it will take a bunch of runs to max out a single skill, but this is still the fastest way to grind by far.

The witches can have the fire, ice, and lightning spells. Back when I played a bunch there was only chapters 1 through 7 and Shanoa only had four spells. I think they added more for chapters after that, though they are found in chests for some reason. It was the same way for her normal attacks, she only had reppukens and stone fists (which I got for Ch. 5 normal boss chests, but other bosses drop it, too), but the later chapters added a couple more.

Basically I suggest checking out drop lists to see what you can get from where and grinding out skills to make your characters strong.

Fuu: The DLC added two new spells for Shanoa - a lightning/dark spell in Chapter 9 (fantastic - my go to attack for damage) and a holy spell in Chapter 11 (kinda crappy). It also added two new standard weapons - a white wolf's head and a black wolf's head (both Chapter 10). As Bugle mentioned they are all chest drops (mostly boss chests or Hard level purple drops). I can tell you from experience that getting them is a pain though - I did alot of run before getting them (particularly the wolves).

Survival spamming is the best way to grind but it's possible without it (just alot slower). I leveled my four assigned spells to max just using Master Rings and fighting the Chapter 9 boss (which you'll be doing alot anyway if you want Sonic Boots - which you do, trust me).

I'll play with you guys if you don't mind my standing there for a few seconds while my TV restarts. If we're playing normal it probably won't even matter - my Shanoa is fairly durable.

Fun games yesterday AW, I was confused half of the time by all the fireballing going on because I was wasn't sure which one were yours ahah. Going to buy the extra levels I guess, it's pretty fun.

It's too bad Oro can't join us because he lives on the moon, but what can be done about that.

It was fun - well, except the fact that I kept starting off Level 5 in the pit with the flame traps. For some reason I couldn't get past them (even though I've played videogames enough to be able to do so in my sleep). Rather frustrating and confusing...

I only wish my stupid TV didn't keep turning itself off. It actually did it during our Hard level Dracula run - right between his first and second forms. I thought I'd be dead when the screen came back on but I never even got hit - unbelievable.

Oro should be able to play with us - he was on his PS3 while we were playing after all. And he's only on the west cost of North America - if the connection worked that well with you overseas then it should be no problem

If that's the case I'll probably grab it next week, do I have to level before I play with you guys? Or is there some kind of scaling?

Fuu: I saw that you picked up Globus during our last session - be sure to equip it; it's great (it's that bouncy pink spell I use)

Oro: Leveling on HoD is kind of odd. Certain characters need to level up their special attacks but it's more a matter of grinding then anything. Aside from that it's largely equipment based - if you played a few rounds with us on Hard you'd get decent equipment rather quickly. That would help for defense and health. Offense is gradually raised by powering up your subattacks (and more or less with weapons, depending on who you're using).

The most difficult thing is learning how to approach each enemy (i.e. dodging attacks; particularly important on hard as they do significant damage - bosses especially). No way to learn that other than to play the game really
