Well, my PS3 has gotten the yellow light of death and will no longer start up. I called Sony about it and they told me that it's dead - my options are send it in for repair ($130.00 + shipping) where they will either fix it or replace it with another system. Problem is that apparently EITHER WAY ALL MY SAVE DATA IS GONE. GONE. All my progress in Dark Souls - down the fucking tube......

This fucking blows. I don't care about the financial impact - I'm just super pissed all my gameplay progress is lost forever. And the fact that this happened during one of the worst weeks in my life is the icing on the fucking cake.

Hmm, I got ylod and was able to port my data onto an new ps3 before it was completely dead. I guess this is where having + helps so you can use the cloud option. I was considering it myself.

I usually back up my save data to a USB key. I'm surprised you didn't. o_O

I'm still sorry for your lost Wind :(

Just go to save data and press triangle on the item you wish to copy, copy it to your USB key.

Of course, not all games allow you to do this, but most do.

Like SF4 Vanilla wouldn't, but SSFIV would but you couldn't use it on another PSN, but it would work on the same account on another PS3.

Etc etc stuff.

The hardware won't start but you can't recover any data from the hard disk? WTF sort of system design is that?

...

*does a data backup*

Sorry for your loss, Wind. My 8-bit heart bleeds for you. My crackhead cousin raided my game collection that I had stored in my aunt's attic until I could come back to NC and pick it up. 2/3rds of my life collecting games for most of it pawned or sold on the street for a hit off of the glass dick. I got some of my PSX games back, but the other stuff that dated back to the Atari era up until the last generation gone.

Fortunately he's in jail on 4 felonies for pulling the same shit on other people. There will be another dick in his life entirely now.

*still salty*

I have a crazy plan.

Step #1) Get old PS3 fixed at local gameshop that does repairs (it's there now). I know from youtube that you can at least temporarily fix the YLOD. If they can get it running long enough I can move on to Step #2.

Estimated cost: $100.00

Step #2) Upgrade to PS+ so I can copy my data to cloud (Dark Souls data apparently can't be backed up normally)

Estimated cost: who freakin knows

Step #3) Get new PS3 and download saves onto that machine. Start using backup for other data

Estimated cost: $300.00+

So we're talking several hundred dollars for something I don't even know will work, And if I get through all this just to discover my Dark Souls data is corrupted (since it saves every five seconds and could have been doing so when the damn thing bricked) I'LL BE FUCKING PISSED

still, it's a plan

I've occasionally turned off the PS3 while saving, it doesn't always corrupt your data, but it can.

I mean, I know you're not loaded, but a few hundred bucks isn't a lot for you right? If your DS data means so much, you might as well go the full 10 yards to save it.

Oh I'm going for it. The money isn't really a factor (I just dropped $80.00+ for Zelda Skyward Sword and a Wii Motion Plus so I'd have something to play without a PS3 and I'll probably never even touch that). Honestly it's more my stubbornness at this point that's motiving me - that and a perverse desire to see if I can't get around this fuckup. I'm going to kick the YLOD in the freaking balls with a pair of steel tipped shoes

very expensive steel tipped shoes...

Though I guess I should learn from this current foible and back up some of my more current data. Thank god UC3 shit is saved on the damned servers.

Foxy, are you Legacy 2 or 3? And what's the one with the star on it mean? My k/d ratio is not as beastly as yours, I have nearly 300 more kills than deaths now. Also, do the negative boosters decrease your health too? Damn sure seems like it.

I'm on legacy 3 now, but my group has largely split to go play Star Wars. I should have hit 75 with them but I ended up playing KOF, needed a break.

The negative boosters shouldn't decrease hp, but some of them can let you get hit more often because of decreased mobility.

Star means you beat all the co op adventure on crushing, I've only beaten London on Crushing.
