Topic says it all. Elaboration would be cool too.

I'll post mine later.

I'd say sports or first person shooters as my least favorite. The thing is even though they're my least favorite, I don't have any strong dislike towards them.

My favorite genre is fighting, I don't really think elaboration on that is particularly necessary since I post in this board. Though I would say any third-person game done well is a close second.

Least favorite: "Real" sports games, like NBA(insert year here), NFL(insert year here); arcade versions of these games are good though; NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, etc

Favorite: Action / Action adventure beat'em ups - Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, God of War, any game where you can actually physically move your character out of the way of an incoming attack, and where pressing a button hits the other guy if I'm next to them, and misses the other guy if I'm not. Ability to combo into air juggles helps.

Other than that, I'm not really picky. I play pretty much everything. Shoot 'em ups, FPSes, racing games, music rhythm games, puzzle games, platformers, etc.

I like H-games because I can fully mack on anime girls *xx

But I think fighting game is my favourite ... this forum is about a fighting game ffs hahaha. I just like the competition and how you can only get good by playing other people, no offense to CPU gods out there but you ain't worth shit until you get top 3 in tournaments ... in saying that I ain't worth shit hahaha. I have known this community (as well as my local one) for ten years now and I have to say I met a lot of people whom I would call dear friends and it would have never happened if I didn't take interest in the fighting game genre. Oh and combos are like so totally uber cool.

My least favourite ... every other game genres because I suck balls at them hahaha.

Tiered for your pleasure (not necessarily in order):

S Tier:
Platformer
Fighting
Sports (Sim)
Racing (Arcade)

A Tier:
Puzzle
Action/Adventure
RPG
Sports (Arcade)
Beat' em ups

B Tier:
Shmups
Survival Horror
FPS

C Tier:
Racing (Sim)
Strategy

D Tier:
E.T for the Atari 2600

Playing strategy games aren't very appealing to me unless they are board games. Sim Sports games rank high with me because where I am from, no one can really play anything else, and playing Madden & Live was where the action was.

Fighting games is pretty obvious, so I won't go into that. Platformers will hold a special place in my heart due to Super Mario. And I love a good arcade racer that gives a sense of danger, fun and speed, and I suppose kart racers fit in that category as well.

Give me something like Gran Turismo, and it's not as fun, as I can't ram someone off the track or hit them with a red shell. All that talk of camshafts, suspensions and la de da don't excite me in a video game. Everything else is fun if done right.

E.T for the 2600 deserved to be singled out. If you could ever play unhappiness, play that.

Hmmm I'd say my favorite is probably RPGs - I have this thing about developing characters and customizing* their abilities and strengths. Not that there are muliple games to base this on but I find that a hybrid RPG ala Borderlands is even better - you get the dubious joys of leveling combined with the actual enjoyment of playing whatever mixed in genre said game offers.

*in so much as you can actually customize anything in these games

I've developed a deep love for online multiplayer shooters but only if things are 'just right'. I really enjoyed my limited (in that it was on the PS3) experience with TF2 and still like UC2 enough to go back again and again despite it's frustrations. Other titles (i.e. Killzone 2, CoD) just don't do it for me so I guess I'm picky in that respect.

On some level I love fighters but I find I no longer have the patience to learn them and/or develop my skills. I need only look at the three fighters I've recently bought (SFIV, Blazblue, SSFIV) to see that I never really play them or feel the need to try. To be honest if I'm going to take time to game it's going to be spent on something like BL or UC2 multiplayer.

Least favorite would definitely be simulation racing - Gran Turismo is sooooooo boring to me (kart and arcade style racers can be fun though). I'm not big on sports titles either but historically have had fun with certain offerings (NBA Live 95, some FIFA game I used to play with friends on the PSX).

Favourites:
* FPSes - Been playing these for years. To qualify this a bit, I tend to prefer FPSes cut from the Quake mold - skill-based advanced movement like bunnyhopping, rocket jumping, strafe jumping, lots of projectile weapons, that sort of thing. I have played and enjoyed stuff like Call of Duty and Crysis, but I prefer my FPSes to be fast-paced and with lots of movement. There just aren't enough of those any more...
* Platformers - Usually 2D over 3D, although I do play both.
* 3D hack-and-slash action games - Your Devil May Crys, God Hands, Ninja Gaidens and Bayonettas. If they're sufficiently challenging I enjoy them a good deal.
* Western CRPGs - when done well. See: Fallout (the original) and Deus Ex.

Really like but suck at:
* 2D fighting games - I play them, but my basics are rather sloppy. Still enjoy them though. Someone play Blazblue with me :(
* Real-time strategy games - I left all my RTS skills back in 2000 when I stopped playing Starcraft regularly :(

Least favourites:
* JRPGs - I hate grinding. On top of that the few JRPGs I've played never felt particularly challenging or interesting - pretty much any challenge I encountered could be surmounted by running off and grinding for another few hours. On top of that JRPGs are totally anathema to anything that actually constitutes role-playing (i.e. choice and consequence). So yeah, I pretty much avoid them.
* MMOs - paying monthly for the privilege to grind endlessly using a boring-as-fuck combat system? To quote Dr Perry Cox, YeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaNO.

Guild Wars 2 sounds interesting though, what with your actions in-game apparently having actual consequences for the game world and all.

Everything else I either don't care about or I'm ambivalent towards - if a game in a genre I don't usually play seems interesting I might try it (like the original Uncharted and Uncharted 2).

I don't know how to genrelize my likes and dislikes. I'll try, but this may just end up being a list of my favorite/least favorite gameplay features.

+I'll play 2D and 3D fighters usually, whether they're good or bad. I just like games where you hit (or alternately slash) people. I'm still waiting for Hokuto Musou but I'm hoping it will satisfy this craving.

+For shooters, I'm more a fan of run-and-guns over tactical soldiery crap. I'm also not big into bullet hell but I did like Radiant Silvergun if that counts.

+I like stealth games like Tenchu and MGS. I especially like games with elaborate methods of trapping and/or execution of enemies, which would include Deception. I don't consider this genre to be the same as shooters or slashers.

+I am more likely to buy anything if there is gender-mixing involved (not just window dressing like a cutscene-only NPC or disembodied voice). This is a selling point in any of the above. And when I say this I don't mean just women, if the game is all women that also reduces this appeal.

+I like story cutscenes because they're usually skippable and don't destroy the gameplay. This doesn't mean I'm opposed to "gameplay" cutscenes, but if I have to choose I will take the former 100%.

-I hate open-world crap. Sandboxes, whatever you want to call them. I've rarely played a sandbox game that inspired me to keep playing it. A minor exception is Shadow of the Colossus, but considering the game has a very clear goal and very few distractions, that's probably why.

-Not a fan of first-person anything. If I'm playing a driving game I will switch to third-person view, and I won't even give most FPS the time of day. Portal was probably the only FP game I've enjoyed in the last 10 years.

-Fake instrument music game thingies do not interest me. The only thing musical about them is you're trying to do things in time, and the only thing gamey about them is that there's a computer trying to judge your performance.

-Sports don't interest me. Most of them are just manipulating some kind of ball in some way anyway. Boxing and martial arts can be mildly interesting, but as the game gets closer to the actual sport it gets kind of boring and unsatisfying.

-RTS, I never understood them. I've tried a few, most of the time it was just me doing random stuff until I got bored. These things tend to have 100-page manuals or 2-hour tutorials that you have to know inside and out to do anything worth a crap, and that's only the stuff they tell you. Can't say I'm into that.

Anything else I can take or leave.

The best:
-Any game whose description can be summed up as, "Sword-wielding bad-ass/martial artist fights/slashes/shoots/kills his/her way through an evil army alongside (insert unnecessary sidekick here)." So in short, action games I guess.
-Fighting games (mostly 2D, but I have love for some 3D games such as SoulCalibur and Power Stone)
-RPGs (western, eastern, as long as it's compelling storytelling and fun to play)

The worst:
-Sports games. Especially sports games from the last decade. I know, managing salaries and gazing at statistics is exciting, but clearly it's not for me.
-FPS. Nothing against them, I just had bad experiences growing up with them. Any of my friends who liked FPSes always whined at me to play and then spent the evening gloating and guffawing as their superior memorization of all the maps and weapon spawn points made me a walking free kill. Yeah, bad sportsmanship was abundant.
-Real Time Strategy (except Dawn of War and its sequels). I believe others have eloquently summed up the problem with either loving them or feeling left out of the club. My aptitudes are reflexes and thinking on my feet. Resource management makes me xmad

side note: SS, I will play Blazblue with you. I promise, I am not that great and I am always looking for somebody who actually wants to play. :P However, there are 8 hours between us. How late do you usually stay up? ^_^;

S-Tier:
SLG/SRPG (I dunno, they just work for me. RPG with less grind and more units to play with.)

A-Tier:
2D Fighters (love it, but I get pissed off easily with them once I reach the limit in terms of how well I can perform on keyboard, since I don't have a stick and no arcade to play at)
JRPG (Straight simple fun, colourful characters, and I do enjoy grinding to a certain extent, though there hasn't been a new JRPG to grip my interest for a long long time now)
Roguelike/Dungeon Crawler (Only really played Etrian Odyssey and Mystic Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer out of this genre, loved them)
RPG (More or less the same with JRPG, I suppose.)

B-Tier:
Racing (I do enjoy them, but I wouldn't bother going out of my way to play one)
FPS (enjoy playing some random FPS here and there with mates, too bad my aim sucks)
RTS (I'm decent with them but it's just too much effort to play, I rather be playing chess or some SRPG)

F-Tier:
Sport Games : Ew.

Nothing wrong with hating it, a lot of people do, I think most people start to hate it once they've grown out of their teen days and got over their Final Fantasies ? :D

Very true. Not to mention that the days where good JRPGS not only grew on trees but hung low on their branches, juicy with fun gameplay and character growth, are past us. We have to dig a little harder to find those real gems like Persona 3 and the like.
