The Revolution's controller.

It's certainly nothing close to what I expected o_O;;

:-(

PS3's banana boomerang, and now the Revolution's remote controller. -_-

It's extremely unconventional...but I have to see it in action to truly judge.

Actually Revolution controller's design seems to WORK. Brilliant design, I must say (and of course, I'll have to try it!). Comparing it with the infamous PS3 controller is an insult, IMO.

The woman has nice hands.

Anyway, bleh @ both the controller and the console. I hope the console isn't supposed to slant like that and it's just some stand or something. Anyway, the controller reminds me of the controllers for the SNES on aeroplanes.

The game demos that Nintendo is showing at TGS.

I must say, the FPS seems very promising. It certainly sounds a lot less cumbersome than using two analog sticks to move and aim.

And IMO, that snipe wasn't needed. But you know..IMO.

The tech demos seem interesting though.

Like the GC's but much moreso this controller will be excellent for exclusive games and rather terrible for ports. Also i challenge everyone to play a fighter with that.

again, nintendo are the innovators, but i can't help but wonder whether this will drive away the target population of gamers to the PS3 or 360?

After looking at that trailer...I think I'm a fan. :D

Granted, fighters will never work on it, and ports from PS3 and XB360 will probably suck, but the prospect of all those new methods of controlling the action is just mind-boggling.

I've resumed my old avatar as it perfectly displays my response to the Revolution's controller.......

I can respect Nintendo's initiative but I have serious misgivings about this thing. For one thing, the fact that it seems to sense it's proximity to the screen makes me wonder if you have to stay in the same spot throughout your game. I'd hate to mess up my game of, say, RE5 by inadvertly entering some esoteric command while adjusting my seat. Seriously I don't want to have to recalibrate the stupid controller if I want to move from the couch to the floor.

And I don't know what to make about the add-ons. Yeah, the analog add-on seems kind of interesting but do I really want it so closely wired to the controller I'm supposed to be waving around like a magic wand? And while the fact that you'll have to buy separate add-on's to emulate the SNES and N64 pads is sensible from a business standpoint, it is discouraging from a fan's standpoint.

Oh and in case I forget - I DON'T WANT TO FREAKIN WAVE A CONTROLLER AROUND IN THE AIR TO PLAY A FUCKING GAME, DAMNIT!

Admittedly, I shall reserve final judgement for when the system and games are released. Who knows, I might end up eating these words and be happy as a clam conducting my Revolution orchestra/videogame. But for now I'm seriously let down.

Now don't think this is crying out against you, I've had this on my mind for a while.

I'm fucking sick of gamers. They bitch about sequelitis and how the industry is going into a hole because companies keep making the same games, but then whenever anything different or innovative comes out they shit thier pants in fear. IF YOU WANT INNOVATION TAKE IT WHEN IT'S FUCKING GIVEN TO YOU! I'm not saying that the revolution and it's controller are going to fix everything, or that they will even be good, I'm just saying give it a chance. Just because something is different doesn't mean it's going to be bad. For everything there is the potential for something that is fun, and that is what gaming is about. Everyone has their heads so far up their asses these days they can't see the things they've been looking for.

The same people that bitch about the industry going in the toilet are the same people asking for an FF7 remake. I'm not saying that all old things are bad and shouldn't be revisited, and I personally don't get tired of certain games as long as there are incrimental changes along the way, but to reject somehting new just because you won't be able to do the same thing over and over is just stupid. To reject the revolution just because you won't be able to play Smash Bros or whatever the same way is just ignorant.

If you want traditional games there is a PS3 and an Xbox360 waiting for you. I will be waiting to see where the fun games are going to fall.

Done and done.

Still, regardless of the classic rehash vs. innovation argument (both sides of which are decidedly fashionable) I still have to say gamers have a right to an initial impression. We all have our hopes and fears for our chosen hobby and these reflect on the position we take when something like the Revolution controller is revealed. Personally, I really like Nintendo's first party products (Zelda in particular) and I worry that the company may limit these titles in an attempt to 'shoe-horn' them into their new control scheme. I also worry that a controller of this type will diminish the 'natural' feel gamers have with a system (essentially the point where the control seems a part of you - this will be hard to maintain with a controller reliant on proximity and angles). So while the Rev controller has interesting possibilities I am not initially entralled by the concept of using it in a modern era game. That's my first impression and I feel I'm entitled to it.

I don't think any serious gamer will 'reject the revolution' because of the controller (I know I won't). Enthusiasts will try it when it comes out and make a judgement then. But that doesn't mean everyone has to just blindly open their arms to this new direction. Having concerns about a new innovation doesn't equal a refusal to accept new concepts - it only relates doubt about that particular concept. When the Rev comes out it's viability will be tested - if the games and control are there than it will be accepted. If not, then gamers stand to lose out on a great deal of potential content (like how Nintendo opted to pursue GC-GBA connection over online play). But regardless of all this right now all we have are our initial opinions. And since at this point support of or opposition to this new concept is largely irrelevant there's no reason to stress over it's reception.
