Valve still wins for the continued support of TF2.

Also, take note of the filename for Konspicuous Konsumption's icon:

The next part of the update...is a new Payload map:
http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/badwater.htm

Apparently this one will have more open spaces and fewer chokepoints than Goldrush, which is nice considering that the win ratio on that map is heavily skewed in Red's favour.

You know Sasha, now say hello to Natascha!

I really like this -- it should add another level of strategy to playing as the Heavy. My question is, will -25% damage be enough to balance it out? And SomethingAwful wasn't off by much (or at all) in their speculation for a new Minigun, so now I'm not ready to rule out their Sandwich theory. :S

Apparently it only slows you down for an instant, so if the guy is already in your face and firing at you I don't know how helpful it will be.

It certainly seems like an anti-Scout/anti-Pyro weapon, though...reduce their mobility and they have less of a chance of taking down the Heavy.
I can see it being used as a crude spy-checking tool as well, but the Blutsauger and flamer are much better for that.

Also,
Konspicuous Konsumption: Eat 100 sandviches.

I guess the sandwich (sandvich?) is confirmed. It had better have a really low ammo count and significant cooldown time to balance it out though...

Arena mode, aka TF2: Counterstrike edition
Well, it's probably more than that. The idea is that you only have one life (no respawns) and the maps all have only one CP that becomes active after 60 seconds.

Today's reveal will probably be the Sandvich, and the update proper will supposedly be available later today.

On a random note, I got my Axetinguisher last night. I don't incorporate the axe much into my Pyro game (I have trouble judging melee ranges in this game) but given what Slapper Joe posted earlier I think I should start trying to.

Arena Mode sounds fun and should add some variety, but people have been bitching anyway:

lol @ "further proving that the dev's have totally abandoned TF."

Meet the Sandvich...holy crap lol

So it has a very long cooldown time (4 seconds) after use, deprives the Heavy of his shotgun but has unlimited supply. Not sure how that's going to work out...

Meet the Sandvich was great.

Well, Heavies are going to be much higher-priority targets now that they can recover their health an unlimited amount of times. Since the Sandvich has a 4 second cooldown, I'd assume that the health recovery is slow. A rather neat, unexpected idea.

The march of the Heavies has begun! Heavy Update up and running.

Finally, an excuse for me to play a Heavy. I can't wait to get that Sandvich.

Looks like 360 owners will finally get a taste of the PC version's content, albeit for $10.

Has anyone tried Arena mode? I'm still not sure what to think of it. Lumberyard is a nice map though...

Slapper Joe wrote:As a big pyro player before and after the update I'm sort of confused with that solo change. After getting the backburner I quickly reverted back to the standard flamethrower because of it being so much more useful. Sure you can't rush sentrys as easy, but being able to cap a point and blow away people trying to stop the cap is too awesome. Just crits from behind vs gas blast isn't even close to an even contest, backburner needs some other boon for people to even consider it.

As if to emphasize the point:

I actually use backburner now in Badwater Basin when on defense all the way up to the final point, then switch over. Big wide map makes it easy to get behind people, esp cart pushing groups in the tunnel that don't have a heavy firing backwards, usually an easy 5-6 kills.

Random question - would anyone mind if I started a Steam group for ON members? I was thinking of calling it the Church of Wyler or something :p
