Skullgirls

Postby Embrio » Tue Jun 24, 2008 00:59

"Hi~ my name is o_8.

Some friends ( including some SRK members- Zinac is our main programmer :9 ) and I are putting together our own 2-D fighting game called "Skullgirls." There was actually a thread about it on here about a million years ago. We've made a lot more progress since then, rebuilding the engine into something that represents what we wanted more. We felt like now would be a good time to mention the game again, since we'll be having a work-in-progress demo available at the upcoming Anime Expo convention in LA, as well as future conventions, such as SDCC.

You can check out more info about the game at the website: http://www.skullgirls.com

Part of why we are showing the demo at conventions is to get people motivated about the project, as well as to show that we are making progress on it. We will also be looking for help in various parts of the project, including sprite art, animation, effects, and sound.

Here is an example of what the sprites look like so far:
This is one of the characters, Filia- she has a living hair monster attatched to her head named "Samson."

and here is an example of artwork of Filia
http://pub.tenkuu.net/Images/2007/filia_win_01.jpg

More info to come, eventually :0/ We hope to make a lot of progress on this project during this summer. Its a very exciting and motivational time for 2-D fighting games in general lately."

This was posted on Shoryuken.com, show you're support by signing up for the offical site and positng in the thread on Shoryuken.com.

Damn, I have to say that I am interested in this after watching a few videos and whatnot.

Could this be put in Other Fighters by any chance?

I originally was going to make a thread for this until I searched and found this one. Didn't want to take shine away from the guy who originally posted it.

The playable characters look neat, but Peacock stands out for obvious reasons. And the others that haven't been revealed look good as well as far as aesthetics/design go.

I've been really interested with this game when the gameplay videos came out, and found out how really dedicated the creators were while reading blog posts and their PR people roaming around Neogaf.

It just pains me that this might just be stuck on being an online downloadable, and I don't have access with that. D:

So you're saying nothing struck you as really interesting? One of the folks on a recently archived stream says that it plays a bit like Mahvel meets Guilty Gear. It sounds intriguing, but what's your opinion on it?

That's also how I felt it played. It has Guilty Gear(BlazBlue, Melty Blood, Arcana Heart, etc.) style combos, assists, super cancels and DHCs. It also had CvS2's ratio system mixed with KOF2001's striker system. Some characters have double jump(or air dash), some don't, like MvC3. I used Mili.. I mean FILIA more than anyone. She's basically Milia and Eddie's fanfic love child. Cerebella is like Kira from Arcana Heart + Potemkin and Peacock is Robo Ky + Mecha Hisui from Melty Blood. Parasoul wasn't in the version that I played. I guess all that might attract some people, but I guess it's not for me. Maybe it's because none of the characters interested me. Also, the voice acting got on my nerves.

Aah, ok. Depending on how much they are charging for it, I'll get it out of morbid curiosity. Never played any of the doujin fighters (still may get Arcana Heart for the lulz), but Skullgirls interests me for some reason.

Need some Ms. Fortune and Squiggly gameplay.

Right now the rumor is probally $15. The only issue with this is the roster is only 8. So who knows how they're gonna go about this. I actually looked up Arcana Hearts , that game looks like uhhhh well Idk how to even put it lmao. I think the art style and way they're approaching Skullgirls shows they actually give a damn not to mention , seeing a mixture of hand drawn animation with blends of anime and not like going over the top is soooo refreshing to see.

I wanna see M.Fortune and Painwheel! XD , Squiggly is gonna probally be rad though , I found some concept art of her moveset. Very Skelleton Snake based , I dig it. She seems to be a Zoner if I'm not mistaken.

They also spoke of some potential male characters via DLC or otherwise in the form of Panzerfaust and Big Band (and I think somebody called Beowulf). Not sure if they are boss characters, but the picture I saw of Panzerfaust, the dude has a tank attached to his arm. Wat.

Bosses are apparently Valentine (busty looking nurse) and the Skull Girl herself (with a maid outfit). Hasn't been confirmed yet, but it's been heavily hinted it's going to be as such.

And yeah, seeing as it's a downloadable game, $10-15 sounds about right.

The animation process is pretty impressive. Like how the staff is really taking good care of the game from all fronts.

Yeah I heard about male DLC , that's awesome curious to know how they'd get the Skullgirl to work. I think they deconfirmed those 2 somewhere , I forgot where I read it. That tank guy is insane , couldn't find a picture of the other guy. They could be dlc bosses or something , they said they wanted to do like sagas.

I hope the game will be like 10 bucks. I just have this bad feeling it will be one of those games a few people buy n then forget they bought it in 2 weeks. Just trying to be realistic, I mean most people aren't going to be playing this in a month or 2 after release.

I want to try it out but if it's like 20 bucks then I don't think it will be worth it. The art style is very cool but the gameplay just looks like it will get boring fast. Ever since they announced this game I have felt like this game is just missing something in the gameplay. It doesn't quite have it's own identity yet other than the art style.

Not trying to be a jerk, but how do you gain fighting players interest when they are so invested in other titles/brands?
