That is the question.

If you didn’t watch the Orochinagi Show 22, you will have no idea what we’re talking about.  To cut a long story short, there was an announcement about a certain DLC character that will be playable at the MCM Expo…  but in the interests of fair play and considering how SNKP have implied that DLC characters are overpowered… should this character be banned from the tournament?

Not now, no. People will still be new with him; plus it’s better coverage and marketing if the character is allowed for the Expo/Gamespot stream.

  2. In Flaming Iori’s blog entry Yamamoto said that people shouldn’t whine because Iori is not THAT strong.

I say bring it. Showcase of the game + new character is better publicity than showcase of the game with nothing new. Also it would be rude to the provider who goes out of their way to get a version with an extra character and then having someone banning him for whatnot; they probably want to promote their DLC as well.

So, get it on. No condoms allowed.

  3. Dont ban them. Way too early to declare as overpowered…

  4. Redblaze27 says:

Its too soon to say they are too overpowered.

It’s kinda strange coz I remember them saying initially they designed the DLC to be powerful so that people would actually want to purchase them (which makes sense from a business standpoint). With the recent blog updates I think it’s almost as they’ve reverted and imply they’re just simply different (in the Claw vs Flame Iori case).

  6. The first statement was obviously made to ensure that the other $$$ guys weren’t going to be crap. Kinda like how they are aiming to make them good all around.

It should be noted that claw Iori is already very good, so they want to make Flame Iori equally good so that people can choose, it’s obvious.

Also, if you read the early blog entries you’ll notice many of those thoughts during development; for example how they wanted to make Elizabeth a no nonsense character that is strong in every area and such. That doesn’t mean that she is going to walk over the rest of the cast like nothing. Comments like those are made quite often by SNK and you can almost tell that they don’t think too deeply on them.

I side with all of the opinions above.

Banning a char purelly on what he/she/they said is a bit silly. Without being proven that the char really is that powerfull that it would trump over all oposition to the point of breaking the game and the only way to win would be to choose that char. Then there is no sound reason to actually ban a char. Specially one that is so wanted by fans.

From what we have seen so far ( wich is very little i know) there’s probably more reasons to ban the likes of Raiden in the Arcade version then Flame Iori.

Hope you all have a good event.

    Have fun

  8. hadoolket says:

don’t ban. even if it’s broken, broken tends to give attention, especially to the tier whores, and tier whores are still a part of the necessary vote.

  9. AkumetsuLord says:

I say don’t ban, pretty much what everyone said here. Besides in AE, People complain about Yun being Broken…and he’s still used in tournaments so i see no problem especially if it shows off the character

  10. a11111357 says:

I want to see them appear at the tournament.

  11. Maxwell says:

I agree to have him used. we want to support SNKP as much as possible. promoting flames Iori is a great way of doing that.

  12. doc strange says:

K’ and Raiden never got banned in the arcade version. If flame Iori is more broken than they were then God help us all.

  13. PrinceHeir says:

    nope

as others said it’s too early to tell which characters is strong and so forth.

though kinda wish they wouldn’t put DLC characters before the release.

i mean come on??? why not put it on retail disc where it belong???

  14. MichelS says:

Hum I have mixed feeling about it.

Let’s be honest…who would play with the DLC Iori for a tournament? Only people who would have played with him all day Friday and Saturday morning trying to get an edge.

No serious player would want to play with him except if he sees that he is broken during the casuals… while a beginner could try to use him but it would not work well.

I don’t think it would be great for the tournament personally. But great for the casuals.

Concerning the exposure for SNKP … The DLC would not be banned to be used during the 3 days on the setups used for beginners and casuals so it is still valid for marketing etc etc.

  15. Gimnbo says:

Pre-emptive banning of a character sounds pretty stupid to me. The most reasonable thing if you were really scared would be to observe casual play and make a decision from there, but since flame Iori is an unknown quantity (as much as flame Iori could be, anyway), I say let it rock.

  16. Louis says:

I think its pretty unanimous. Let the Flames Fly!

  17. KusoGaki says:

“Let’s be honest…who would play with the DLC Iori for a tournament?”

    I would.

    MUSHKA, MUSHKA, HWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  18. KusoGaki says:

Btw is it confirmed whether Saiki is unlocked ?

  19. BTW I was reading (laughing) at Tekken vs SF “new features” (or was it the other way around?); and to be honest if you ban something now you are going to give a weird karma to the game that might stick with it even post release date.

  20. ZeroSoulreaver says:

I say don’t ban him for the sake of fun. DLC characters should possibly be banned at later tornys though, but not for this one since this will be many people’s first time trying it out anyway. This all helps to get a feel if the character is in fact broken/OP or not.

  21. hadoolket says:

and there you have it. hardly anyone used him at all :S

  22. TripleMMM says:

No comment. Really, everybody said it already…
